Location: North Australia | My driver door (motor to gearbox) window coupler has broken again. Am looking for a replacement. Info on possible supply of new repro or second hand needed. I saw info and part numbers in an old thread on here, but I cannot find it. Also, I think I saw some repro's made for thunderbirds/Fords that might be compatible, but I cannot find the specs to confirm they fit. I am pretty sure the shafts are 5/16 and 1/4 (with flats to transfer the drive). Any help appreciated. I am going to pull it apart again tomorrow. Steve. |

Location: Northen Virginia | I had the same problem with my NY years ago, they changed the earlier system (57-58-59) for this one. I managed to find a NOS 61 worm with the rubber insert but I'm afraid it will snap from the inside serrated washer like any other one. My solution at the time I think was squeeze the serrated washer that connect to the motor shaft with a metal tie rap That part is the weak link.... |

I think the thunderbird parts were actually the motors and not the gear boxes. I don't know of anyone reproducing the actual gear boxes but there is someone making new metal gears to replace the nylon one inside that breaks. I can probably find that info.
If you're having a repeated problem with breakage, you need to rig up some sort of support brace for the motor. The motors have a lot of torque and they shock the system. Some cars have a metal brace that bolts to the gear box and then to the door inner structure. Doesn't seem to come on all cars. The last ones I got were from a 1964 Chrysler 300 4-door. Even with the brace, the gearbox can break as seen in these pictures.

Location: Sept. 1958 | It sounds like your looking for the small barrel shaped coupler? The gear boxes are known to break on these. Odd to have that coupler break. |

| Which broke the rubber coupler or the round 'gearbox'? I have both. |

Nobody has stated which electric motor/gearbox that they are using, i.e. AutoLite, Hupp or Dura.
Assuming it is Dura, the PN for the coupler might be 1810 641. (??)

Oops. Perhaps that was not the issue in for 1960 Imperials. The 1960 issue would more likely be front or rear window? PNs for the shaft/coupler seem to be either 1627 108 or 1688 919.
That said, the non-Imperial Mopars with the Duras were still using the 1810 641 coupler
This was apparently discussed previously in 2018:

You have to salvage them out of parts cars, or find window regulators with them. I don't believe that anyone makes them. I looked through Gary Goer's catalog, just to make sure he doesn't have them- no luck. I believe that 55-59 uses the all rubber ones...
For your '60 Imperial, the part numbers are as follows:
Front door 1627108 (used on all make/models)
Rear door 1688919 (used on all make/models)
Quarter window 1627108 (used only on Imperial 2 dr quarter window)
I hope this helps.
