| Hi everyone, my 301 in my 57 Plymouth needs a rebuild. I need pistons, rings, valves and so on. These are proving a bit difficult to find. Does anyone know a supplier for these? Thanks in advance, Darren. |

     Location: So. Cal | The stock compression ratio was 8.5:1 for the 301 with really thin head gaskets. You'll end up with around 8:1 with newer gaskets. Is that really what you want to run? Don't do it.
The 318 engine has the same bore size and used 9.25:1 pistons in the 1958 Fury. At least you would be running around 8.75:1 with those - along with the bigger 318 crank. I'm not sure when engines started using thicker head gaskets, but the '67 318 is listed with 9:1 compression and might actually give you that amount with the longer crank installed.
If you don't want to change the crank or run 8:1 compression, order custom pistons. A poly should be run well on up to 10:1 compression.
An interesting thing to look into is trying 301 pistons with a 318 crank. But I suspect that you would just end up with the same '58 Fury combination.

   Location: N.W. Fla. | Keep in mind that the '57 301 Plym Poly is a different engine than the '55 Chr 301 Poly when looking at parts. |
