| Stuttering (for lack of any other word) on heavy acceleration. My 56 Custom Royal with a 315 single rocker engine and Powerflite has this stutter when I start form a stop and and stand on it. If I take off slowly it is smooth as a cream puff. It also runs smooth at highway speeds. I took Dave (56D500boy) for a ride on Monday to demonstrate what was happening. Dave asked, did you check this, this and this? Answers are all YES. I have a distributor with Pertronix Ignition currently installed. I did take that distributor out and put my back-up points distributor in to compare. Same S@#t. Today I ordered a new set of premium 7mm plug wires from our local auto parts store, Lordco and will try these as I have changed or tested everything else I can think of. Ideas anyone?

       Location: Alaska | could it possibly be the trans. slipping in low gear? This reminds me when my daughter was away at college she would call and have me listen to her car and ask "dad what is this noise" |

| No power brakes. Not transmission, a stall test has eliminated any slip.
I should have my new spark plug wires soon. Once I have replaced these I am hoping this remedies the problem. If that does not fix it, I will start the check list all over.

| Sounds like a fuel delivery issue under heavy load. Check your fuel pump pressure, it might be struggling to keep up when you floor it. Also, clogged fuel filter or a weak carburetor could cause that kind of stutter. |

        Location: So. Cal | I agree with the fuel problem, but I would point to a partially plugged jet or other carburetor problem. It can also be that you are getting too much fuel during these times, from an internal leaky gasket or other problem.
If you have a wide band O2 sensor & gauge, you could put that in and monitor the fuel/O2 ratio during these times.

 Location: New Jersey | I had a similar issue and it drove me crazy. Turned out to be a slightly bent metering rod in the carb that caused it to stick under hard acceleration. I have a Carter AFB, not sure what you're running. |

| Hi John, that make sense, more than anything else. My carb is a WCFB, 4 barrel. I had it overhauled by a very reputable shop in the Vancouver, BC area but….
I will rip the top off the carb in the spring and check it out.
