I am proceeding to get ready to lift the body of my 1956 Dodge Custom Royal sedan off the chassis.

I have successfully removed nuts of each body bolt from front to rear on LHS, until I reached the last bolt at the end of the body / chassis rail.

I could only successfully get a little apparent but no real traction on it with a tube spanner, but now the hexgaon nut has some rounded edges, nothing will shift it.

I looked at and tried to loosen the nut you can see in the under chassis, it is square, so I wonder if it is fixed to the chassis?

Do I chop the nut off inside the trunk using a cold chisel, and lift the body up over the thread, and deal with it when I can get to it ?

Has anyone got experience with this problem?

thanks in advance.

Always use heat on a bolt or nut that you suspect will be rusted on. Heat it to red-hot and then twist it off. It will come right off if you do this. If it's stripped, you can use vise grips on it, after you heat it up. Be careful around gas lines or tanks though. Make sure there are no fumes or leaks around.

if you have got a mig welder but not gas welding equipment:

First cut of the part of the bolt protruding the welded nut... I would probably cut the whole nut of the frame with a tiny grinder.
Let it cool

You must check before you weld that the socket and the bar has room enough. And if you cut the bolt remove the fuel tank first since you any way
will lift off the body.

Thanks for those suggestions.

The nut is now off.

The heat was a great suggestion....found a neighbour with a gas torch ( fuel tank has long since been removed).

Needed a combination of heat and cold chisel, but it is off.

On the other side, a 9/16 socket fitted perfectly. But bolt snapped with only a little pressure.

Not a problem to fix once body is off.

Now on to the next problem, whatever that may be.

Thanks for all suggestions.

Nothing works better at times than the old hot wrench on our cars.
