Hello,
my name is Roger, i live in the north of Germany / danish border and my construction year was 1966.
Since many years me and my wife love and live with old cars. I own an old Volvo Amazon ( 1967 ), some Mercedes Benz S-class and some bikes ( Harley and Moto Guzzi ). Since about 8 Years we are interested in US Cars but we never had the courage to buy an own one - but now
The "must have " was : fins, 8 cyl, Auto transmission. We checked some cars , sometimes the front was nice but not the back or the instrument panel or something else.. Or the fins were nice but the rest not so nice. We dont like Cadillac and Buick, the roof from the Ford models are ugly ( in our opinion ). Not so easy to find a compromise.
After some cars which we checked we learned that we are not a fan of a car maker but the Designer. And nearly 90% of our favorite Models were designed by - Virgil Exner.
At the end there were some Models : Newport, New Yorker, Windsor , 300 ( too expensive ) , De Soto Fireflight, Dodge Coronet and Plymouth Belvedere / Fury ( but also too much money ).
Next Problem : We live in germany and the selection is very poor. The standard Cars ( which we dont like ) f.e. Mustang, Corvette , Chevy 55-57 are in several offers - but Chrysler was very poor. The same with Car Forums : there are some for Ford , Chevy and so on - but nearly nothing for Chrysler. So i found the Forward look network.

In september we found a very nice Windsor 2door HT , but a check in the workshop was terrible. So many rust.
In November 2022 we found "our" New Yorker 4 door Sedan ( 1961 ) at a german import dealer
The car was running in Ohio till February 22 and was sold from a Dealer in Salem to a dealer who bring the car to Germany. I know nothing about the history of the car, except the name of the last owner ( from the title ).
I know that the car is not really perfekt, but the most important thing for me was : no rust and a fine undercarriage. The car were "restored" on the body and interieur , not original but our choice. Some unusual things in the engine room were installed , its ok for me. Some mistakes i found with the help of this forum.
At the moment i had to repair / restore/ change some minor things and make some cosmetics. I guess i get some help from the network - from you.
The hardest problem is the electric installation. The most is working proper but the cable harness is far away from original. A few disfunctional things were not repaired but change against "something else " ( Horn Switch, Coolingwater gauge, )
I think i will fix it in the next month. The front brakes were ( from the last owner ) upgraded to discbrakes - they work very well.

Thats my story and i thank you for a warm welcome.
I hope my english not too bad - i worked many years as a vessel engineer , often in the states. But after some years.................
Maybe you can read the above

best regards
Roger

Thank you guys for your welcome,
and the additional infos.

@frwl : you`re right, i have an fine working power seat - which i put on an extra bracket 4 inch backwards to sit comfortably

A Question : i don`t like the aftermarket chrome airfilter. It seems very hard to find the original golden filter housing, especially in Germany . And the shipping cost from ebay.com to Germany are extrem high.
But there are several similar ( ok, nearly similar ) filter housings from other US cars. Can i use generally every 4bbl housing to fit it on my 4bbl carburator ? Maybe with small modifications ?
I`m not an original freak, but this airfilter looks not so fine.

Thank you
Roger

I believe if your carburetor is original to the car/engine, the two barrel and four barrel use the same air cleaner assembly.

Your gold color is just paint and you can get a black one from a DeSoto for instance, clean/sand it, and paint it gold.

Beautiful car and good luck in your search for an acceptable air cleaner.

Here's one for $100. Yeah, during these years, the 2bbl and 4bbl had the same size opening.

Welcome Roger!  Great story and amazing car!  I hope you have many years of enjoyment in the forums and on the ForwardLook webpage.

I am always impressed with the international members.  It would be very daunting for me to use a German, Russian, or Japanese discussion forum - so you have my sincere admiration in that regard too!

Thank you very much for your friendly replys,

@viperguy : there is an original ( ? ) Carter AFB 2903s installed, but on an Edelbrook manifold. I think this is not important.

@powerflite : thank you for this link - the offer ist fantastic. But : the ebay calculation said that i should pay 61 $ shipping cost - wow !!! Whats the hell cost 61 $ ? With custom i have at least an aircleaner for more than 200$.
Maybe i should ask the seller if the shipping coast are lower ?

@lancer Mike : also thank you. I think its easier to use an forum in english language because nearly everybody can handle this language - more or less. I often look in danish or swedish websites, but my danish ist so poor that i can`t use it.
I also own a Volvo Amazon since 1988 and I am an admin for a small but fine Old Volvo Forum. We have also members from the states and also Indonesia - everything works fine. In case of emergency in english

Roger

Roger, most probably the low air cleaner is most probably a result of the Edelbrock manifold. With the original manifold, the original aircleaner almost touch the hood padding. I'll check the original aircleaner heght today and let you know.

As for shipping costs, if it's trough the Epain Global shipping, then it should be with all import taxes included.

Been there' done that Roger. I had to order a superlow aircleaner for a Chevelle 67 convertible with 396 cui, Edelbrock manifold - just because the aftermarket low aircleaner was too high.

Same thing with a GTO 70 with 350 cui and Edelbrock manifold I worked on.....

Actually, the aftermarket aircleaner you have give more air than the original aircleaner. You could strip off the chrome (wich looks wrong) and paint it gold instead.

Hy wizard,
i think i will now first measure the space and then i decide which way i go. I dont like the style of the chrome filter, maybe there will fit a Filter housing of another manufactor.
I also think about to paint the Aluminiumcooler in black - we will see.
But before i have to fit some other small things.

Thanks a lot
Roger

I do beleive that Chevrolet 59-65 aircleaners are lower and surely more obtainable.
I have quality engine bay labels for the 60/61 Chryslers. Gold paint and a Mopar label can disguise another brands aircleaner

Hy wizard,
now the results of my measurement :
From engine to top of the cleaner ( include lock srew ) = 25 cm
From engine to upper rim of the carb = 22 cm

So i think i habe a bit space for an aircleaner.
Thanks
Roger

Might work Roger, just consider that the original aircleaner rubs slightly against the hood padding.

I think i will check the offers in Germany and must ask the seller about the sizes.
There are some similar Filters , but some have a square snorkel insead of round.
I will find something
Thanks

Welcome Zorc
I have an idea for you with your air cleaner.

If the factory type ends up to high, you can cut the base out of the factory one so that it can slip down over the
after market one.

You discard the top of the after market on, replacing it with the top of the factory one.

All that needs to happen is the top and bottom of the element has to seal with the top and bottom of the housing.

You can also use a smaller diameter base so there is a gap (that you wont see) all around the side that air can enter, not just the snorkle part.

By the way, your English is fine and Welcome from Australia

Hello Mike ,
and thank you.
You`re idea is great. The lower part of my aftermarket filter ist inside ( on the carburator ) deep moulded to top . I cant describe better
So it must possible to use the original as a "Cover ".
Thank you

A little Feedback,
among various other work I have also renewed the air filter. I did not get exactly the original , but a Mopar filter from 1965 . Better than chrome. I have him repainted and provided with a nice sticker. I used - as suggested by Mike - the bottom part of the accessory air filter. Then he does not come too high.
I think it turned out very nice.
Roger
