Location: The Mile High City | It looks like it was last on eBay 7/30/2009 - as far as I know. See the Regal thread. Came from Indiana, then to Massachusetts - now resurfaces in California. Looks a little worse for wear than in 2009, but whom among us isn't?

Expert 5K+ Posts: 9650 Location: So. Cal | I have a second chance offer to buy this car. I am 95% ready to click the button. No issue with getting screwed as I will pay or not pay in person with car in hand. But how can I tell if this car is a clone or not? The lack of trim availability makes cloning a very difficult process, but what should I look for? Thanks for a quick! reply

Expert Posts: 2996 Location: Sept. 1958 | Was this car built in Hamtramck? If so the trim tag would give a color code that would begin with a 5, only Regals had this.

Expert Posts: 2996 Location: Sept. 1958 | No, it would begin with LD3 just like Custom Royals.

Expert 5K+ Posts: 9650 Location: So. Cal | Thanks. I just bought it. I couldn't pass it up. Hopefully it is as good as I hope when I see it in person. If it is a bondo-buggy I will just walk away from it. I will check out the trim tag too.

Location: The Mile High City | Great news, Nathan! I have a terrible confession to make: I was the high bidder at the end of the auction, but I got cold feet. Before the auction ended, I asked the seller to retract my bid - but the auction ended and I was the winner. I was prepared for the wrath of the seller and eBay, which I richly deserved. I am really glad it turned out well for you and the seller. If all is as advertised, you got a great deal. After I cast my bid, I got really worried this car was not a D500. I really should not have bid without finding out more. If anyone out there thinks eBay stinks, you now know the reason - me!

Expert Posts: 2996 Location: Sept. 1958 | Mike, you could have asked the seller for a photo of the data plate to prove it's a D500, if it indeed has one.

Expert 5K+ Posts: 9650 Location: So. Cal | Mike, your confession is not terrible to me as it gave me the chance to get it cheaper . That's the drawback of buying a car long distance. If it's cheap, you can afford for it to be not as described, but when it is expensive, that's another story. I just got back 5 minutes ago from looking at this '57 Custom Royal 4dr sedan. https://losangeles.craigslist.org/sgv/cto/6183409426.html It doesn't look bad from the pictures, but she strategically cut off the bottom quarters and top of the fenders in the photos. This car was rusted horribly throughout the entire thing, and you would never guess it from the ad. One of the worst rust jobs I have seen. Definitely a parts car. The price is still not bad for a parts car, but I didn't want to have to deal with tearing it apart right now. I want to spend my time working on the New Yorker instead. So I passed on it, but buying it from long distance could have been a disaster for someone looking for a driver. I will take some pictures when I go check it out. My only issue is that my wife gets out of the hospital today so I won't have anyone to drive me out there to take it home. But I will try to twist one of my neighbor's arm to help me out. I asked him if the motor was an L-360, and he said yes. Where on the data plate is D500 indicated? Location: The Mile High City | I thought about asking him for an image, and I think I would have - if we ever had contact. I felt like a heel about that though, because I placed a bid on it without an image of the data plate! If that was a deal killer, I should have asked first - he may have correctly replied. Still he advertised it as a D500 and it should be coded that way. The engine number being a L-360 is a great start. Nathan, assuming it has a Hamtramck data plate, it should have a 3 in the 24th position, under both 5 (top row) and 2 (second row). On the L.A. data plates, I do not know. Good luck on the deal - I hope it is as sweet as it looks! If it is, I will probably kick myself for a good long time. Post an image of the data plate and we should be able to decode it for you. Expert 5K+ Posts: 9650 Location: So. Cal | Mike, your instincts may be serving you well. I just got this message: please pay for 1958 Dodge Regal Lancer by wire transfer: Wells Fargo Harrison Najera Routing Number blah blah blah Looks like a generic message the way it is written. It is my experience that anyone who immediately requests a wire transfer is orchestrating some sort of a scam. We'll see where this goes but he ain't getting any money without a good title & good car in hand - in person.

Location: The Mile High City | If pressed, I was going to ask for an image of the title, an image of the VIN, and an image of the data plate before any money was exchanged.

Expert 5K+ Posts: 9650 Location: So. Cal | Smart to ask for good pictures that are not already provided. Apparently he claims he is in Cuba right now and will let me know when he is available I will give him the benefit of the doubt, but right now I am thinking that if I ever do meet up with this guy, that I will bring a police officer friend of mine along with me - just in case. And I am not going to be bringing any money with me the first time until I verify that he actually owns this car.

Location: The Mile High City | moparsteve - 2017-06-23 8:03 AM i saw that regal lancer on ebay -- this turned out to be a shim.... a scam! I wondered about that! When my last bid met the reserve, I thought this is a very inexpensive Regal - let alone a D500 Regal. I saw his eBay rating was very good too and he had his phone number listed. But other threads did not have positive views of the seller. It all gave me the heebie-geebies! I still hope Nathan's deal is legit, but it looks worse by the minute. Seller claims to be in Cuba (of all places)!

Expert 5K+ Posts: 9650 Location: So. Cal | It's back again, but with the new line added: "Payment Due in 3 Days from Wire Transfer NO CASHIERS CHECKS OR CHECKS...IF THIS IS NOT AGREEDED APON DON'T BID ON THE CAR." What a douche. This guy is a crook. Never buy a car with a wire transfer - ever!!

Expert 5K+ Posts: 9650 Location: So. Cal | I doubt it, because I doubt that he actually owns the car. But he did contact me yesterday for the first time since returning from "Cuba". Instead of setting a time to pick it up, he just took the opportunity to insult me and relist the car. When I pressed him for at time & place, he refused and wants me to call him on this phone number which isn't registered to his name. He never did tell me that he relisted it of course. Phooey. Anyone who refuses cash in person is a crook. Stay away from this guy. That is my advice.

LMAO BTW Nathan Nutall (POWERFLITE) on FORWARDLOOK didn't want to meet at the back to verify the cash so look whos the douche...like all his messages said to him TIRE KICKER...as well as never wanted to speak on the phone to discuss the completion of the sale.
