Agreed.

If this seller is trying to base their price on pedigree, they overlooked the fact that half of it (413 engine is Chrysler/Imperial only - should be a 383/4-bbl) is missing.

$10,000 for a rust free Polara body, bump it up another $7,000-$8,000 for being a drop top with new canvas. Bump it up another $3,000-$4,000 for the paint job/body work, knock off the same amount for lack of interior.

If I had the scratch, I'd go $20,000 including transportation to Arizona as it sits - tops.

I dont know where you get your paint work done, but good material for a car is easy 3k. Yes you can get cheaper stuff, but thats exactly what your getting. and to find someone to do a all over paint job for 1500 labor, must do used car stuff and buffs. (been in the collision industry for 22+ years got out of it because of cheap people and control of the insurance industry)

Yeah....I hear about these cheap paint jobs but never seem to find them when I need one. I just painted a single fender using pints of product and I still ran over $300 in supplies alone.

As for the 413....if it's installed correctly, couldn't care less that it's an 'upgrade'. That's because I'd rather feel the 413 than a 383 when I press the gas pedal. Better still if it was a 440...
Let's not lose sight of the fact that buyer back then ONLY were allowed the 383 but I'm sure would have welcomed the 413 from the higher end cars.

Tach it up, tach it up
Buddy gonna shut you down

It happened on the strip where the road is wide
Two cool shorts standin' side by side
Yeah, my fuel injected Stingray and a 413.
We're revvin' up our engines and it sounds real mean

Tach it up, tach it up
Buddy gonna shut you down

Declinin' numbers at an even rate
At the count of one we both accelerate
My Stingray's light, the slicks are startin' to spin
But the 413's really diggin' in

Gotta be cool now, power shift, here we go

Superstock Dodge is winding out in low
But my fuel injected Stingray's really startin' to go
To get the traction, I'm ridin' the clutch
My pressure plate's burnin', that machine's too much

Pedal's to the floor hear the dual quads drink
And now the 413's lead is startin to shrink
He's hot with ram induction but it's understood
I got a fuel injected engine sittin' under my hood"

(Doesn't mention that the fuel-injected Sting Ray had to go into the shop for a month after that race)

This car was briefly advertised a few month ago and then the ad disappeared quickly,
when word got around that this started as a 1963 or 64 Chrysler and was rebodied with Polara parts, that would explains the Chrysler dash etc.

The word is the vin # is from a 4 door Polara.

Is that information correct, tailfins?

I would think you would disclose that in your ad or to a potential buyer if it was so?

Let us know, tailfins, and if true, how did you go about the conversion?

I hear ya - and, unless there's a mess of dust all over the car (well, dust or oxidation - the latter of which means a re-paint, which could knock even more off of a realistic price) the paint isn't exactly top notch.

Plus, someone mentioned a 1963/1964 dash?

Certainly - to each their own when they own it.

But, if a seller is going to base their sale price on pedigree, then $35,000 is *way* too much for a piecemeal Polara, IMO.
