Hey everyone,

This is my '61 Imperial. I bought her in 1994 and she's been on the road since 1995. Most of this time was on the club registration scheme, but lately I've had her on full registration.

The last owners were Earl & Marvel Schlick of Tempe, Arizona. Prior to this, she was in California, but I don't know where.

She's originally Coronado Cream, with Russet Leather. The colour she now wears is not right and she will be painted ( one day ! ) Coronado Cream again.

Ha ha - yeah she looks good in photos but I can assure you that she's no showgirl !

I'll definitely be heading over to Adelaide for the ACD next year. I just don't know if I'm tough enough to handle the 40C+ of Adelaide in summer in an old car with no a/c !

I mean: TALK about a car that looks like it's moving (quickly; in flight?), while it's standing still....!!!??

THAT is the essence of the Forwardlook---implied forward motion!

Thanks guys - yeah the '61 Imps are my favourite. The '57 and '60 DeSotos are right up there, too. But I honestly like all the FL cars. This is an era we'll never see again, unlike muscle cars which make a come-back every decade or so.
I also love the waves and smiles you get and the "I had one just like that..."

Hey, Guy!

There is/was a WPC club member Dr. Dave Bryant(?--Ian?), who lovingly cared for a white 61 IMP 2-dr, with a Tan (Ian??)
interior.

I remember, at the 1986 WPC national meet (Colorado Springs, CO), some local-yokel T-boned Dave, at the entrance to the hotel,
but Dave, at least, got the Hard Luck Award out of the event!

Car was repaired, and Dave even got a replacement "Imperial" fender emblem as part of his hard Luck award.

THAT was a great 'meet'; cars parked 360-degrees around the Doubletree, and you could spend all night walking around it,
going from one car guy, or gathering, to the next one.

Anyway; could you kindly consider removing your car's Paint/Trim plate? I'm curious about whether the area behind it is black-
painted, or still in primer.

Because the P/T plate is apparently very old, it looks like it was painted off of the car, and then installed, BUT: its phillips-head
screws are also white, which implies that the P/T plate might have been masked off, from the core support, when it was painted
white, after it was screwed onto the core support.

If it was masked off, then the area behind it should be either in finish-black, or primer-gray.

No worries Neil - I'll check on the P/T plate tonight.

I thought my car had a tan interior when I bought it ( I bought it after looking at photos - this was pre-internet days ), but, as you can see from the P/T plate, it is a Code 888 Russett Leather ( Pink ! ) interior.

Neil, Dr. David Briant's Imperial is a 62, not a 61 that he has owned for eons.

Yep, AutoPilot.

I've never used it, the speedo cables were busted when I bought her and I've been too lazy to fix them !
Everything else works though, the windows work really well, the chassis is tight, I've re-built the transmission and fitted a new exhaust system. The body work is a little untidy, but the white paint hides the flaws well enough.
I thought very seriously about a 'cheque-book' restoration last year. We have a very capable Chrysler-only restoration shop in Sydney that was happy to take her on. However, I knew that she would be off the road for at least a year and during this time Mr. Gary Goers went 'missing'. I really didn't like the idea of having a half-finished Imperial sitting in a shop on the other side of the city in a million pieces waiting for a truck load of reproduction parts to turn up.

Yeah - there was a time there when no faxes or emails were being answered and his web site went off-line. This lasted for a few months. Apparently all is good again.

ANYBODY got any photos of the appearance of a "Russet leather" interior?????

OMG, would THAT be a jaw (and wallet-lololol--NOT) -dropping appearance.

Thanks, Ian, forgot about Dave's car's year; 61 Imp's HAVE to be the most flamboyant model, of all the FWDLK'ers,
(even more, than the 61 Dodges)!

Just a question : TRM 888 doesn't appear in the salesman book (as reproduced on the imperialclub.org website). Does it mean that the codes in the book wouldn't match what is stamped on the dataplate ?

I always thought that '888' was code for special order. There's nothing 'special order' about Russet Leather in a Crown, though. Maybe a factory mistake.

I'll try to photograph it for you, Neil ( and the data plate - I haven't forgotten ! ). Film and digital cameras seem to struggle to reproduce the shiny metallic pink colour of Russet. It always turns out tan/brown but I can assure you that it is very pink.

Neil - I've had a good look around the trim plate. I really don't want to turn the screws - they look like they haven't been touched. At some stage, she's had a minor front-end biff, I can see where the grille and lights have been removed and/or replaced. However, the radiator support panel has never been touched and the blacked-out area behind the grille looks very original. The screws that hold the trim plate are a sheet-metal ( self-tapping ) type.
