hi,
I have a 59 dodge and am trying to find a fuel pump for it.
None of the local auto parts stores parts books go back that far.
Kragen shows a listing for a fuel pump for a 1963 361 v8 part number 267
Will this work on my 59?
They claim it fits both 361 and 383 v8's

My next question is regarding the master cylinder.
My car has the dealer installed power brake unit on the inner fender wall.
Am I correct in assuming the master cylinder I need is for non power brakes?

You should be able to get a new fuel pump for that B engine. If the guy at the parts store is a just a computer input device (like most of them nowadays) then tell him you have a 78 Dodge truck with a 400.

Dunno about those aftermarket PB's.

Yes on the MC, and Rockauto should have both these parts, the MC for sure.

Thanks Shep,
If worst comes to worst,I can order them online,I wanted to get it on the road right away.
They have the master cylinder out here at a brake shop for $123
And Kragen claims the fuel pump they have that's listed as fitting a 1963 dodge will work, guess I'll have to chance it.

all the auto parts stores show the airtex 267 as the replacement pump for my car.
Rockauto even lists that number and shows a photo.
How come it doesn't look exactly the same as the original mostly in the inlet outlet area?
The original had threaded ports, the new ones don't,just built in brass nipples.
I guess this doesn't matter, but why don't they make the
to look original?

I'm not sure why, they do what they do. Maybe it's so it can be compatible with more models? I know when I bought my pump for my 58, the brass nipples were just screwed into the threaded ports. I kept the one for the "in" but took out the "out" so I could run my metal gas line.

With out explaining the details of what has happened in the design progress
of the Fuel Pump from 1958 to 1978 ( aka two decades ), the advice of just
saying it is for a 1978 Dodge Truck was a very good lead.

You can't take them out on the pump I got, they a one piece with the bottom half of the unit.
I suppose it doesn't matter as long as it works,I was just wondering if anyone makes correct looking ones for these cars.

As far as the master cylinders are concerned, I got curious and consulted my parts book, last night, and there
are different P/N's for the PB and the non P/B units---although HOW you can confirm them,
except for the piston diameter (forget what the measurements are--thanksalot!), I dunno.

Anyway, the NON-power brake MC, for all 1957 Mopes, appears to be : 1843 413

In 1958, there were two versions of the NON-power brake MC: 1829 401 (Early-) and 1829 400 (late-).

I just can't figure out what the Power brake MC P/N's are supposed to be.

Help??

Thanks d500Neil,
My dodge has the dealer added power brakes unit on the inner fender.
I ordered the manual brakes master cylinder,it should be in today.
How does that fender mounted unit work?

Reportedly, that aftermarket power brake system is STILL being sold, new, today!

Remarks, on another thread, around here, had high praise for that system's
operation and reliability.
