My first classic cars were a 1957 Chrysler Saratoga 2dr hardtop followed by a 1956 Dodge Coronet Lancer 4dr hardtop- both sold many moons ago. I have since owned a 1958 Edsel Pacer 2dr hardtop, followed by my 1957 Lincoln Premiere 2dr hardtop and 1960 Oldsmobile Super 88 convertible (both of which I still own). However, I have always wanted to get back into a FL (I loved my Chrysler and I come from a Mopar family). So, I found and am so happy to add one of my favorite FL's- a 1959 Plymouth Sport Fury- to my collection. Note to self: I will never buy a car sight unseen again (hindsight is 20/20)- there are issues and I know it's missing the bottom bumper guard (I have a replacement) and the radio antenna... Anything else, please let me know!

I have ordered the build sheet from FCA, but so far from what I can tell things are appearing correct (color/interior- I was speculative on the interior because it's turquoise and that was not a '59 color until Spring (car was built on 1/2/59) so, I'm thinking this was an early spring special??), Nothing in the car indicates it was ever any other color... but, I will find out soon! Engine is a 361... I have a weird feeling the car was a 318... the numbers on the manifold indicate a 58 Dodge/Desoto and the starter is for the same...

From the cowl tag this car had no options- but, I have no clock (I thought this was standard on Fury), and the rear bumper should have bumper guards? I have never seen one without... Although, it is the correct shaped bumper for '59?

Welcome back!!!

Those lower front valances can be tough to find, as most were destroyed by either rust or were mangled by inattentive wrecker drivers or pulling to close to a curb.

Thanks, guys! About the lower valance, the car did come with a replacement one (thankfully). I just need to get it straightened out since it is rather beat up and repainted/installed.

Love the interior!
Love '59 Plyms in general, best friend had one 40 yrs ago. The only thing I lose if I were the designer or if it were mine is that huge round emblem on the fin, it just looks sooo tacked on, detracts from the otherwise clean lines.

Had this one up to about 2 yrs ago, imo it was Ford's only "FL" car:

Welcome back! Beautiful car you've bought. The interior looks correct at a glance, and compliments the white paint. My only suggestion is to lower it! It is so high that it looks like it is on stilts. :D

Even of the 361is not original to the car, it is a nice upgrade over a 318. I look forward to seeing more as you enjoy it.

Nice! Another 59 Sport Fury pops up, loving it.

According to my option book the clock was standard but I've seen more Sport Fury's without them.
There should be rear bumper guards on all models. Yours should have the standard chrome ones since you don't have the optional rubber guards.

Any chance you can shoot me an email with some info and pics so I can add yours to my 59 Sport Fury database?
I can decode your VIN and data plate also. If yours has a data plate we know it's not an M293.
Can also decode the build sheet if you want, can't decode dealers though.

Thanks to Matt K., I was able to decode my build sheet. The car was sold at "Lakeland Motors" in Knoxville, TN. According to what Matt decoded:

312- accessory group which included back up lights, windshield washers and variable speed windshield wipers $27.85
305- front and rear rubber bumper guards $1350
373- Golden commando $86.50
345- hot water heater $74.40
403- remote control mirror including a matching passenger side mirror (also known as the deluxe mirrors) $26.25
301- power steering $76.60
302- power brakes $42.60
441- radio $73
13- 8.00x14 white walls $41.75
293- torqueflite 3 speed automatic $226.90
502- undercoating including fiberglass hood pad $12.85
533- axle ratio 3:31 (standard was 2:93)
602- sold car, your car was a car that was sold and the ordered

With the price of the Sport Fury hardtop $2927.25 it's a total of $3629.45 back in 1959.

Luckily, my motor is an ML361- so it's an original Golden Commando

Thanks to Big M I was able to get the correct Golden Commando air cleaner and then the sticker off of Ebay (not attached yet). Question- does anyone know what the correct shade of gold it should be painted?
