Exner Expert 19,174 posts. Neil passed away 18 Sep 2015. You will be missed, Neil! Posts: 19146 Location: bishop, ca | That is a RARE surviv(ing) car! Somebody lifted its Rammies; note the OEM carb cut-out(s) on the inner fenders. At least, they left you one of the air cleaners (and, maybe a carb, too). It's got a power seat, too? Single-front A/C. AccoustaFoam headliner, too. And, the roof rack. This was an impressive car, when new! Still is, too... Edited by d500neil 2013-11-19 7:28 PM

Expert Posts: 3967 Location: DFW, TX | Power windows, too. The '60 Dodge has THE coolest interior of all time IMO. There was a black '60 Pioneer wagon at a junkyard with a red interior. I swooned over that baby! It was awesome, even in awful condition. That car is magnificent. How is the rust?

Posts: 19146 Location: bishop, ca | And, check out the brake pedal; for a D500 and heavy-wagon, the previous owner(s) did not slam on the brakes very much. Too bad they left it 'out to seed' (probably after the Forwardlooks fell out of public favor).

Elite Veteran Posts: 690 Location: BELTSVILLE, MARYLAND 20705 | From what I can tell the car has had three owners. It was willed to the guy I got it from. The previous owner bought it around 63/64. It was sold new in Ceder Falls , Iowa at ERICKSON MOTOR COMPANY. to a Doctor i was told. The second owners drove it till 1969 and it was parked at the owners farm in Colorado till 2012 It is in great condition with a small rust hole in the floor at the heal of the drivers foot, and a quarter size hole on the side of the passenger side fender. Unfortunately the engine is wrong, and the crossram stuff is long gone. But everything else is there including the D500 emblem and the front inspection covers. Its a loaded car with having power locks, power seat and a roof rack and a/c and a turrit clock. The radio im not sure on as it has a aftermarket antenna in the wrong spot. Ive had fun cleaning it out (2 days) of all the Colorado dessert dirt and the mouse houses. It is a late December car so im on the hunt for a November or December 1959 dated 383. Crossrams are everywhere so that won't be a problem This is the second 60 Dodge Ive rescued in about three months from the mid west. The other being a Red 60 Matador 2 door hard top-- ALSO NO RUST I'm sure there are more out there these were pretty easy to find

Posts: 19146 Location: bishop, ca | A new accelerator pedal shouldn't be too-tuff-2-find, but the "AccoustaFoam" headliner IS Unobtanium. Fortunately, Ian, here, can help you find 'cordoroy' material that approximates the appearance of the AccoustaFoam stuff....

Extreme Veteran Posts: 337 Location: UK | Wow! A very nice wagon. As far as I'm aware even the masonite headlining material on my Dart wagon is made from that unobtainium too. I will be keeping a keen eye on this resurection for sure! PS it didn't come with a spare tailgate did it?

OK : "Str Trek" but I'll bet that's already taken. M Falcon...nah; too F-word. Klingon....or Starship-----now THERE'S the 'plate', but guaranteed that it is already taken (in CA, for sure!) Posts: 19146 Location: bishop, ca | I really like STARSHP If that is already taken, in MD, you could see what the MD-style letters look like, and approximate the "S" with a "5", or: 5TARSHP or STAR5HP You could also consider STARHIP; that's not bad!

Veteran Posts: 136 Location: Cincinnati | Wow talk about being late to a party...awesome find! The other fawn D-500 is no longer in Japan but New Zealand and has been driven into the ground. Also some controversy as to whether it was a real D-500 covered in previous threads. I tried to contact the owner via YouTube and asked for the VIN so I could confirm it was a true D-500 and he would not do it. This will be a beauty and always glad to find another Polara Wagon...first white one I've seen with upgraded green covers. This one is really well optioned but what I find very interesting is the car came without the rear grab rails. A 9 seater with luggage rack and step pads but no grab rails...fascinating. Keep us up to date Smitty can't wait to see the progress.

Posts: 19146 Location: bishop, ca | One restoration MAJOR nicety is that the rear area cargo's covering is carpeting, and not that cheapo-weako 'masonite' stuff that appeared in the previous years' wagons. Now, if only OEM headliner could be found, or fabricated.

Its engine stamping number is: P[1960] 38[3]-SP [Special Police!] - 1118 ???? Can you find the casting date on it? What is the P/N on the transmission? That, too, should be a Heavy Duty unit.
