January 6,7,8 at the Fort Lauderdale Auction, there will be a '59 Desoto conv, and 3 '57-58 Plymouth convs on the block. These cars have been listed on Ebay recently and discussed here in the past.

I don't know how true this is, but a person we know who was at the auction heard that someone bid a total of 2plus Million on a bunch of cars and dissappeared near the end of the auction, not to be seen again, leaving the owners and auction company in an unfortunate situation.

Well it wasn't me. I don't have 2 million cents, actually I don't have no sense.

owner shouldnt have a problem, thats why he's paying that crazy vig, and auction has letter of credit for people who are bidding in the millions. that aint done on a handshake and a smile. high bidder signs "agreement to pay" when hammer falls. they can disappear if they want, they are paying. in the case of that indiana deal, the auctions reps were buying the cars to keep the customers from revolting and hoping the market would bounce to cover but obviously that didn't happen and that is why those folks waited for the money, some never getting paid. people don't have a clue what really goes on at auctions. there are more games being played than in the olympics. i've bought thousands (yeah thousands) of cars @ dealer auctions in us and canada and i still get surprised by a new wrinkle every once in a while. i get such a charge out of the tv reporters saying "well bought" how could somthing be well bought when one item is being fought over by a bunch of fat cats trying to impress each other and occaisionlly getting in a pissing match plus bidding against the owner, the wall, the auction house, and on top of that paying a 10% buyers comission. the key is they run "one lane", in other words every buyer in the room and on the phone or internet is focused on one car at a time. so you figure they are all going to sit on there hands and let someone swipe a car. i doubt it.
