Congrats and welcome. We need more "King-Pin Orphans" (55s and 56s). And yes we need photos.

Hints on posting photos are found here:

http://www.forwardlook.net/forums/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=64340&...

Basic hint is NOT A JPEG FROM AN iPHONE. Must be a .jpg. Must be < 250 Kb (1024 x 768 works well). Other details are in the link above.

Looking good. Congrats. Should be a "fun" project.

If your car was built after about June 1955 (VIN = about 34960001 for a Detroit car), it will have a data tag on the engine bay cowl (right side = Detroit plant, left = Los Angeles plant). The body code should be 235 (see below). Trim code could be 442, 432 or 431. I would put my money on the 442 (see below). The paints are Sapphire White (roof), Jewell Black (saddle) and Heather Rose (lower) like the Royal Lancer in the chart below. Should be Paint Code 569.

Thanks for that info! The title says Vin# 34903984 so maybe I don't have the tag you refer to?

34903984 looks like April 1955 so well before they started using cowl data tags. When Fiat Chrysler (or whatever they call themselves today) Historical comes out of Covid lock down, you will be able to request and receive a copy of your car's IBM production card, something like the one below that I annotated (added the details for "koopster"'s 55 Dodge Custom Royal 4 dr sedan.

looks like jons car is a late production car by the looks of the side trim also. early custom royals had the straight side trim with the v-8 emblems on the front fenders. later cars had the swooping chrome on the rear doors with the v-8 also there. i believe thats when they changed the name to custom royal lancer. early lancer cars where just the 2 door hardtops and convertibles i believe? dave, can you confirm this? Jon, does your car say lancer behind the headlight? i do like the color combo. it would be interesting to see the options on this

Sorry Tony. I'm going to correct you on most of the above. Not because I know this stuff and I am an expert but because I own a copy of Mike Petersen's "1955 Dodge - by the numbers" book and I have gone through it many times looking for things (and sometimes I remember where to find them again).

1. Jon's 55 Dodge was probably built in Detroit in April 1955 so mid-run, not late run.

Quoting and/or paraphrasing Mike Petersen:

2. The Lancer badge was only on the Custom Royal Lancers which included 4 door sedans in 1955 as well as the 2 door hardtops (Special Club coupes) and Convertibles (Convertible Coupes).

3. The Custom badge was only used on the Custom Royals and Royal Sierra Customs (wagons). It wasn't used until somewhere around April 22, 1955

4. Custom Royal Lancer cars had chrome fins on the rear fenders from the factory (some people added them to their 55s by ordering the parts through the dealers, PNs 1599 680 and 681 plus the little bits)

5. Custom Royal and Custom Royal Lancers had headlight "doors" (bezels) with the pointed eyebrows and three chrome teeth on each of the two grill bars. They also had the larger taillight lenses with the slotted chrome bezels and chrome spears.

6. The Lancer type moulding (with the side swoop) could be ordered as an option. Code 295 for two tone 2 and 4 door sedans. Code 296 for three-tone 2 and 4 dr sedans and wagons with Sapphire White as the third colour and 297 with Jewell black as the third colour.

7. *BUT* if you wanted all the Lancer goodies on a 1955 Dodge Custom Royal sedan (normally Code 235) you just ordered Code 245 which was the 235 with the Lancer trim.

(This last one I didn't know about or remember until reading page 22 of Mike's book just now).

Hope that helps.

Thanks for all this information. I'm so glad all the chrome and stainless is present on this car and in good shape. Only need front and rear bumpers restored. I did notice slotted rear taillights if that means anything?

Your front bumper doesn't look that bad.

As for the taillights, from above:

"5. Custom Royal and Custom Royal Lancers had headlight "doors" (bezels) with the pointed eyebrows and three chrome teeth on each of the two grill bars. They also had the larger taillight lenses with the slotted chrome bezels and chrome spears."

Like these on my 56 Custom Royal (except the lower lense will be clear = back-up light)

Some 55-56 Dodge tailight lense trivia to read:
