Expert Posts: 2519 Location: central Illinois | I've used Eastwood's stainless steel exhaust manifold paint in the past. It does NOT burn off or discolor but the color was off. I went looking for some more and found a new one from them http://www.eastwood.com/exhaust-detailing-kit-factory-gray.html First thing is to have the manifolds glass beaded to remove ALL rust and contaminants. Then I painted it on the manifolds and it matches the color so well it's hard to tell where you've put it on! Put on 2 coats to make sure you've got coverage. One can of the brush on paint will easily do 2 sets of manifolds. It says it's good to 1200 F and if it's anything like what I've used before it won't burn off. I've also used it to coat the intake manifold choke crossover to keep engine paint from burning off. It does have a short shelf life of 1 year if unopened and 1/2 year after opening. Also, do NOT shake the can!!! Edited by b5rt 2013-11-27 9:40 PM

Posts: 19146 Location: bishop, ca | Whatever product you choose to use, the factory finish on the exhaust manifolds was the SAME color-material as for the engine blocks: Chrysler Silver. The manifolds were attached to the engine blocks when the engines were painted. The OEM engine silver burned off of the manifolds quickly, but the manifolds were painted with the same "high"-heat paint that was applied to the engines. The manifolds need to be perfectly clean (sand-blasted) and residue free, before painting. "Aluminum" hi-heat paint is the wrong shade for our cars.

Expert Posts: 2788 Location: USA - KY | . I instead opted to paint my car's exhaust manifolds in a paint that looks very much like new, bare cast iron. I was trying to copy what the original manifolds would look like after the silver paint had inevitably burned off, but before the surface rust had set in. They look great. I can post the name of the paint used when I find it, if you like. Good luck with your project!

Expert Posts: 2289 Location: Eastern Iowa | I bought 2 cans of the Eastwood stuff last minth to do my CI 300 J headers. 2 coats later, I still have enough left to do a 3rd coat. So....If anyone needs a can of this stuff, I have the 2nd unopened can left for just what I paid and will eat the shipping on it to YOU if in the US. Dave S
