Are Aero steering wheels for power steering cars only. I have one I thought I might put on my non-power steering '61 Belve.

No, they made them for manual steering cars as well, I know because I have one.

It will work but the horm wire will come out of the centre of the steering column and can then plug onto the horn switch instead of (on the p/s columns) going through a little wheel (brush) and a contact ring under the wheel.

I am doing the same, but I have not done the outer column yet to verify the wheel to outer column spacing, but I cant see it being a problem.

On the 60 Plymouth the Aero wheel was for pwr steering and the same wheel for non power looked like the Aero wheel except its was round. At least that's what I have seen

You need to loudly proclaim this is how it was, and when someone shows up with some literature
stating otherwise, refuse to acknowledge that you were mistaken or that you just learned something.
How else will people come to know that you have all the answers ? C'mon, Dude ... get it straight.

I have been told, that a non P/S car is round. (sent you a PM) I was also told you could interchange them and was told you could not. Never tried to see iff its true

The Aero wheel was on available on Power steering cars. any and all modifications of such wheel to fit on a non power car are not intended per Chrysler specifications.

The wheel that I have is a square wheel from a '61 Plymouth. I have a power steering assy. from my '61 Ply. parts car with an automatic. My car has std. tranny. Will I need a std. transmission power steering column or can I mix the 2 columns together to give me the right parts too make this work. Is all of this worth it to have a square wheel?

Sorry I may have been mistaken, but I do know I put a power steering wheel on my manual steering column (both automatics) ttotired is correct. I'm on the fence if it's worth it myself, haven't driven my car enough yet to know...you do gain some legroom but that only matters if your seat is high or your theighs are the size of my ex wifes, lol!

I am of the belief that the round wheels are for non-power steering and the square ones are for power steering... At least for the 1961 Plymouths...

UPDATE: I took my round steering wheel off of my non-power steering, 3 on the tree '61 Plymouth. I test fitted my '61 Plymouth Aero wheel and it fit with no issues as far as shaft size. The shifter was close in 1st gear but nothing I couldn't live with. If I had to I could heat the shifter and bend it slightly for more room. This question has been asked by 1 of the wheel restorers: will I be able to control my steering with this square wheel since it is not a power steering car ie. when your making a hard turn and the wheel returns to center after the turn is completed. Everyone knows how quickly a steering wheel returns to center on a non-power steering car. I know I've got to replace the horn mechanism to make the horn work but does the mechanism have to come off of a aero wheel car or can it come off of round power steering car. Can someone post the pics of what I need to make this horn work.

What I found is almost everything

With the screw/ bushes, you need 4 not 3

There is a rectangular adaptor thing that goes between the horn switch and the horn button, that I didnt find

By what you have pictured it appears that I have everything that I need unless there is a part in the column. I have the horn ring but its not pictured. Since no one has commented that I can't use an Aero wheel w/out PS with a "3 on da tree" then I'll be the 1st. More will be revealed about the drivability of an Aero vs. Round on a non-power steering car. I am having this wheel recast and the color will be maize yellow to match the car. For you purest, maize yellow on a Aero wheel was est. in 2013-2014. LOL

The only mod you might have to do is the horn wire

The PS column/indicator switch has a brush to rub on the horn ring under the wheel, the manual one, the wire for the horn should come up the shaft.

No real biggy, just plug the wire comming up the shaft ont the switch instead of the one thats there on the ring.

You have already identified the clearence issue with the gear shift, so the only other thing is the quirkyness of the square wheel with manual steering.

I will also have to deal with this as I intend on useing one of my aero wheels on my dodge (at least until I can recast one of my dodge wheels)

I'm going to use this wheel as soon as I can finish the brakes. I just got 3 new wheel cyl's and I'll have to rebuild one of my old ones. I hope to have all of this done by next week as the Petit Jean Mtn swap meet starts next Wed. I can't send in my wheel till after the 1st of the year so I'll use it "as is" till then. I will post pics and update the "Quirkyness" of this up-grade. Thanks for all the info.

Well here is the skinny on using an "Aero Wheel" on a non-power steering car with a 3 on da tree, It Works!!! It is a direct bolt on and the horn works, Beep Beep!!! I had NO problem in driving or shifting and Frumpy said "Lets go Daddy'O".
