Forward Look Fans:

Mark your calendar for Sunday, September 14! The Palos Verdes Concours d'Elegance will be held at the Trump National Golf Club in Rancho Palos Verdes and will feature up to twelve nice original or restored Forward Look automobiles in the "Virgil Exner Chrysler Design" class.

A few of the expected vehicles in this class include:
- 1955 Chrysler 300
- 1956 DeSoto Fireflite
- 1960 Dodge Matador
- 1961 Imperial LeBaron

The exhibition committee is asking for help to locate a rare Forward Look vehicle, a 1961 Fury, to represent the Plymouth marque as well as demonstrate the innovation and creativity of Exner's Forward Look. Please respond to this ad if you know of a very nice original or restored 61 Fury in the Southern California area.

About the Palos Verdes Concours:

In addition to viewing about 200 exhibited cars, visitors can see craftsmen at work in Restoration Alley, shop for gifts, dine in the elegant Club House, and examine show cars in the display areas. The Concours will be preceded by a Road Rallye on Saturday, September 13.

The Palos Verdes Concours is a 501(c)(3) charity event with proceeds benefitting the Palos Verdes Art Center's educational and community outreach programs and Palos Verdes Rotary Foundation Charities, including Harbor Area Boys & Girls Clubs.

What a beautiful 61 2 door in Air Force Blue... never know that color could look so good!! Makes me want to get another '61.

Sherwood or Aaron Kahlenberg would likely know who has the best ones in that area... paging "c-300"!

Guess who the Matador belongs to? There will also be a 1958 Regal Lancer there (hint same owner).
I am going to contact them too and see if they are interested in the 1958 NY Convertible or my 59 Dodge Vert.

(Don't tell them that the Regal is not a real Super D500 model....), but it is a real Single-4 D500.

No worries, Neil, I won't tell them that my 59 Dodge is really a coronet with a 326 poly as it's original motor.

ButTTTTTT, The Chrysler has it's original 392 Hemi.

I won't take the Dodge, as Borje is bringing his 59 Dodge convertible that he bought from the same person
as I did the Chrysler, and yes, we know about the carbs on it!!!!, not that it makes any difference as I Luv Luv Luv
the 440 and the dual carbs on my 59 and could care a rats @$$ whether"Purists" bless it or not.

I've had a ball with that car in the 9 years I've owned that car!

Speaking of car shows, The Spring Fling is this next coming Saturday, April 5th, 2014 at Woodley Park, Van Nuys CA.

I will bring the 1958 Chrysler and a friend of mine is going to bring my 1964 Dodge Polara 500 that I
bought new, when I was a 21 year old kid. I've had that car for 50 years now.
It has the 426 Wedge, power windows, and now a 727 torqueflite, (It did have a 4 speed) when I ordered it
from the factory around October of 1963.

Why did you ditch the 4-speed ?

Wife drove the car as a daily driver.
Here left leg was getting bigger, (more muscular) than her right leg.
Also the clutches only lasted about 20,000 miles. (They do build better clutches today).

Back in 64 when they raced these cars at the quarter miles, the torqueflites always beat the 4 speeds too.

Well geepers, ... just put in a 2nd pedal so both legs get a workout and you can drop
the gym membership !!!

Seriously, I get it. My Coronet runs a 440 and 4-speed and it is a workout to drive in
any sort of traffic. That 833 is no smooth and easy transmission to operate.

No, a smooth and fast shifter if was not.

In fact it had some kind of flange built into the Hurst shifter to
keep you from shifting fast or doing any "Power Shifting"
You actually had to make a short pause when going from 1st to 2nd, 2nd to 3rd~~~etc.
The tranny as well as the 426 engine was "covered by the 5 year/50,000 mile warranty
so they did not want ppl blowing up the engine or tranny.

The TQ has a floor shifter and the car will smoke the tires going from 1st to 2nd, so
the car , (at least to me), is more fun to drive.

I think I will ultimately sell my car or lose the 440 in favor of a 383 to make it more drivable.
The 440 seems incapable of producing miles-per-gallon over 20, and the tire smoking potential
is lost on this Sunday driver. I like the stick for appearance and actual driving, but it is NOT a
smooth operator and can't be expected to be.

...That's basically why I removed the 3.54(!) Sure Grip(---ok: 3.55---) from my ride.

Too much 'operational' noise, not very-much improved performance over the OEM 3.36 guy, but much worse MPG.

Got H.'s 2.76 from Brent, here, and love its quietness, smoothness, and MPG.

To utilize such a high ratio (or, ANY ratio), though, you need to modify your distributor for extra-and-fast timing advancement
and a (low-end) camshaft re-grind is good to have, too.

The 2.93 ratio is probably the best one, for most people's cars.

Boy-Racer stuff gets old...along with us.

Have you tracked your actual fuel mileage since the change, and if so, what are you getting ?
