Transported a MINT '60 T Bird for Trojan Cars this morning, and whilst there, asked Alan the guvnor about the latest on the 'Sara..
It has now been sold to the bloke that originally restored it 10 years ago, he bought it on behalf of his mate, and yes, they are Portsmouth residents, so for now
it seems the car will stay here down South.............£12,500.00.

Howdy Fred.

That thing is uglier than an oil slick!

Please educate me, Jam Jar? (cause you can take the top off?).

How's that old Plymouth going?

Steve.

Hey Steve, long time no "hear".........."Jam jar" is just C ockney rhyming slang for car........Like, if you were like minded, I'd say to you after work, d'ya fancy coming down the frog for a couple of pigs? Translated that would be.. "frog"= frog 'n toad = road. and "pigs"=pigs ears= beers, therefore, I'm asking you if you fancy coming down the "battle"= battle cruiser = boozer for a couple of pints..
It all started in Victorian times by the London Dockers who were always on the make, but as they did their deals in pubs, it soon became noticed that undercover cops were always eavesdropping, so they started up this rhyming talk,, and by only using "half" the rhyme,it was only understood by likeminded dockers...

Hey Chuck mate, nice to see you in the Limey section!!! I keep promising myself that I'm gonna phone you, but hey, after work, and I've fired a few ciders down my neck,I stagger off to bed telling myself..."I'll call Chuck and Kay tomorrow"!! Just make sure you tell that lovely lady of yours with the AMAZING WV accent ('n stuff) LOL that I still love her, and miracles do happen now and again and one day/night Ole Diesel will call.............Take care Chuck mate..

Hello Fred and Chuck, Just so ya know, I was joking about the Tbird, I am a car enthusiast through and through. Although those Birds are out there!

Fred thanks for the explanation. I am familiar with the rhyming slang, I have been around To and From's (Pom's) all my working life. Some Aussies also have adapted that style, and it comes up pretty regular with the older larrikins.

Never heard 'Battle cruiser' before, I will be using that one this week!

Good to hear from ya, me old China!

Steve.

Hey Chuck, Guinness is an Irish beer. It's a big seller over here, but like you, I also think it is awful !! Incidently, I used to drive for Guinness at their Stratford on Avon depot in the early '60's..In those days, all British brewers allocated all their workers a free daily allowance flagon (2 pints) of beer, there were a few of us that hated the stuff, and would hand it to the blokes that liked it..Needless to say....We were VERY popular..
