Hi everyone,

Searching didn't help, but I may have just missed a result. I just bought a 56 Belvedere and before I get too far into this thing I'm wondering if I need to run leaded additive in the fuel or if unleaded is fine. Thanks for the info for anyone who responds.

Location: So. Cal		Leaded would of course be better, but I can't be bothered with that so I just run unleaded, and when it eventually needs to be rebuilt, I will put in hardened exhaust seats. They will run fine without it for many thousands of miles. Typically, we don't put $150k miles on these cars so you may never need to worry about it.

Location: Mandurah, Western Australia		You can protect your exhaust valves by using lead substitute Flashlube additive to the unleaded fuel, either add 50 ml per tankful or install a dosing unit. You may also need to adjust ignition timing a bit

If you have the flathead six cylinder it already has hardened valve seats and no gas additives are needed.

Thanks guys. I have the v8, and I'm going to run a compression test this week to see what it looks like. I'll go with the additives suggested, really appreciate it

Location: little rock, AR		Non Ethanol fuel. Make sure your using fuel injected fuel hose. Ethanol eats up rubber. Destroys fuel pumps. The list goes on and on.

This. Ethanol is a bigger concern for you than unleaded fuel. If you can't get ethanol free, consider using an ethanol treatment to help negate the effects of ethanol.
