Hi all,

making plans for a trip to Carlisle this year, does anyone have ideas on the best located motels/hotels to stay in?

Hope to see some FWDLK's there.

Thanks
Owen

Owen, my wife and I stayed here last year. I recon around half hour drive to the showgrounds (if you dont get lost!) Nice place, met some nice FL people staying there too. Great place to sneak around, Carlisle, make sure you stop at the antique shops for a look.

I got bushed due to road works on the Turnpike.

Unreal Chrysler show week in the town, the whole place has Mopars going everywhere.

If you have more questions, fire them at me I might be able to help.

Steve.

We stopped in Hawaii on both legs (from Australia and back) to break up the flights, and to dodge LAX. I recommend it! Great place to stop for a swim and a look around. Pearl Harbor is worth the stop-over on its own I recon. Great sight seeing and weather.

We flew into New York from Honolulu, and stayed there a week, which was cool also. Central Park, the Chrysler Building, the Museum of Natural History were some of my favorites.

We drove out of Manhattan to Carlisle, which is also an adventure. A Road Trip in the US is the Ultimate road trip! We drove up over Lake Ontario, and back down into the US through the Thousand Lakes area. Stopped at the Antique Boat Museum in Clayton. Unreal museum. The pub over the road from the museum has the best Pizza and beer I had the whole trip. I would go back and do that part again tomorrow if I could!

The we got lost in the Adirondack National park for a week on the way back to NY.

Steve

I will not be able to make it this year. I am still working on my car. I hope to have it back on the road by next spring or summer the latest. I already know not to get my hopes up.

Hi Owen.
All the motels in Carlisle are pretty low quality but prices inflated for event season.
You want to stay somewhere close by to the showgrounds. Not sure if you are driving or catching taxis while there but taxis are a hassle and never there when you want them.
Last year we stayed at the Quality inn (Low-Quality Inn). I didn't find it too bad.
Some other stayed at the Red Roof Inn (Red Root Inn). Some had some bad stories about that place.
Another year we stayed at the Super 8 which had no end of issues.
A pool is always a bonus.
It's a bed and a pillow at the end of the day. Hopefully without bugs. If you're lucky the shower drain will work.
Get there as early as you can on set up day (Thursday?). If there are any swap meet bargains to be found, that is the time.
You will get to meet some awesome ForwardLook crew! Make yourself known.
Glenn.

Though not for everyone, Bed and Breakfast places are all around the Carlisle area. They cost about the same as an ordinary motel room, and you get a delicious breakfast before you go to the showfield. Ive been doing BnB's formany years, and have never been dissappointed.

Cheers Glenn, sounds like top shelf accomodation. Got a room at the 1980's style Travelodge a while back which looks fairly close to the showgrounds, we'll have a car too. When are you leaving, we go on the 10th, will be on my NZ mobile so if we cross tracks give us a yell.

What are your movements across the east coast after Carlisle? We fly into Houston on the 17th, flying to Nashville next day then driving to New York taking in a few states on the way. Always good to catch up with funny speaking tourists from home on the way. I buy a US SIM card and pop it in my phone, way cheaper with unlimited data etc. can check emails on the go. Keep us posted and let's catch up somewhere.
Glenn.

We go LA, fly to Detroit next day 11th, then onto Carlisle 14th, after that will head South East down to Florida, then make our way slowly back across to LA. Maybe cross paths between Nashville and Carlisle.....now that leaves it wide open doesn't it!

Thanks for the tip on the phone. Did you pre-purchase tickets online for Carlisle or just turn up on the day?

I stayed in Days Inn during the Spring meet couble months ago.
Modest but nice and clean and only about 10 minutes drive from the fairgrounds.

Owen.
Probably best chance to catch up would be after you left Florida and making your way back west while we are driving east from Nashville. Or are you flying back west from Florida?
The phone Sim card-just go to any mall AT&T store and get a Prepay Sim card that has the calls and data you need for 3 weeks. Last year I think ours cost US$29 and it was more than adequate. Once you have the number just give it to folks back home etc to call you on. And with data you can make calls for free on Facebook etc.
Or just take yours and roam like a friend of ours did. Her kids would call every hour from NZ "I can't find the tomatoe sauce" etc. Telecom cut her off once she got to $1,000! True story.
Pre-purchase Carlisle tickets. Easier to just get the weekend pass. Make sure you get there the night before it opens, Thursday. It's cool walking round while it's all being set up and they use to have a pre-show car show/meet at a local dealership nearby, not sure if they still do but worth looking into.
Glenn.

Yep awesome to have a real car to drive while at Carlisle!
We are heading back to USA on 17th July so unfortunately we will be missing Carlisle this year, instead spending the time driving from Nashville to New York to see a bit of USA we've never seen.
Hey Jeff was going to ask you about your radiator in your Fury. Do you happen to know if they were originally 2 row or 3 row cores? Mine sprung a leak and it's only a 2 row core but the tanks will accept a 3 row core so that's what I have decided to do.
Glenn.

Hi Glenn...

To be honest with you, I don't know. The rad in my car came from Canadian Dodge Regent. I saw a post from Brad earlier. My rd matches on of the part numbers you listed. I can tell you that my car runs with the temp gauge centers at all times. Zero overheating issues. Soon as I get out of the airport will fill you in on my flight to hell! Lol

Will you please post photos of the show. I would like to see them . I was also advised against driving my '61 to the Forward look reunion when my '61 is finished. I was advised to trailer the car instead. I hope y'all have a wonderful time , I wish I was able to attend .

Very enjoyable to watch with lots of sweet FL cars. One thing I was pleased to see there were quite a few 4 door cars that the owners are obviously proud to bring to the show.

Do my eyes deceive me or was that a '56 Dodge 4dr sedan that could run a 9.49 quarter mile? Or was that an 1/8 mile? What was the motor in it?

Had a great time, and nice meeting some of you all. Let's of good automobilia this year. Scored a great deal on a test driver game and found an amazing dealer poster! Definitely the best show I have been to in terms of finds!

Looks like a blown HEMI engine to me. And if so, that's probably a 1/4 mile time.
