So I picked up a edelbrock 1404 for my 57 315 Hemi engine. It has the stock 4bbl manifold on it and I obviously need some sort of carb adapter. However, I am confused on what type I need. Thanks!

If your hemi is a 57, then I think it is a 325, not a 315.

As for the adapter, it would have to be Edelbrock 1404 to Carter WCFB (Small spread 4 bbl). Somebody will correct me IF I am wrong.

Maybe I got the date code wrong... but the block and head casting numbers show it as a 315. What brand/part number adapter do I use? I have seen multiple ones and not sure which is the right one.

Trans-Dapt 2062? Offenhauser 5282A?

http://hothemiheads.com/dodge/intake_manifolds/adapter_quad_holley.... Not sure on the Dodge intakes, but on the Chr ones you can open up the bore holes in the intake (and adaptor) to match the holes in the carb. Eliminates restrictor plate driving! Install longer studs.

Great! So it looks like the 5285a will fit then. Once I get it, I can get out my die grinder and port match it too, so no restrictor plate racing!

I used the adapter in the link below. Requires a little rework, there are impressions on the plate that can be drilled and countersunk to attach the plate using the original stud holes.

Bisquik have you found a place that has 5282a in stock? Summit has a estimated ship date of nov 2017 for those.

I called trans-dapt and the 2062 is a bot on adapter. It is like the 2064 shown above, but already drilled and ready to go. Should be here in a few days.

Got the carb adapter today and definitely looks like some restrictions here. Will have to pull out the due grinder for a bit of port matching.

How do you secure the studs for the larger carb in that thin section? Seems like they should have made it solid there so you could get some threads to hold the studs in those regions. What am I missing?

It has some nuts and such that fit in slots on the underside. Not the greatest design in my opinion.

The intake manifold in question is not drilled for the later AFB pattern but doing so would make for a better assembly IMHO.
Also, given the design of the manifold I might suggest using a 'funnel' adapter (tapered ports) and nix the die grinder since this is a stock engine.

If that edelbrock is the same as what I had, its more like a spread bore than a square bore

I had to use an adaptor to go from square up to spread (kind of a funnel plate) on my 2x4, but the 57 manifold has the smaller bores in the intake (I have a 57 poly 4 barrel manifold here) that
you could drill your own holes to bolt it down to the manifold but a lot of die grinding would still need to be done and as the manifold is dual plane, getting all the way down to the bottom will be a big job

Speedway has a tapered port unit, #135-1935. Kinda cheap at $20 on ebay.....

If you can accurately drill the manifold for the bigger bolt pattern then the adapter is only a spacer and you get rid of the funky ½-nuts gizmos that hold the studs.
Using a tapered port adapter on an otherwise stock engine is not going to affect operation.

Hmmmm. That one looks the same as mine. Mine has tapered ports already.
