Looks like the interior may need to be redone and the rear window(s) may be leaking. That positive battery cable looks to have been hot at one point. But I wouldn't mind owning this

I'm really not a fan of the hood spears. I think they detract from the look. The fender spears look OK, but I am undecided if they really make it look better or not.

=======================================

With both present, impaling errant pedestrians is a cinch !

My NY'er had both. And being it was the first FL car I really got to know
up close and personal, it set the tone for the look I like I gues ??? ... so I
tend to see NY'ers without as looking like stripped down lesser models,
much like the spears on a Fireflite being standard and optional on a Firedome
and not available on a Sweep.

It's not something the average person in today's world would understand, given the passage of time and what has become of the Chrysler product line. But...I can recall as a youngster that if you had a New Yorker you really had something. I don't mean the 80's or even 70's vintage cars where the NY name had lost its shine - but rather the 60's and earlier cars when you were riding in style with a big V8, no emissions controls, and a trunk big enough to hide a few bodies.

Apparently most people agree with me because those hood ornaments are quite rare. To me, they just look out of place, like horns on the forehead of a beautiful woman.

Hood spears definitely look out of place on these New Yorkers. I'll take mine without, please.

I think one or the other not both, either fender spears or hood ornaments... Forward look cars aren't over-blinged 58 gm cars..

Agrees that Chrysler should not have too much bling, then you can buy a DeSoto??
Sincerely, I think in moderation just as it stand out a little is okay. It looks a bit naked without iron bits on the hood, but as said, it should not be too much, but especially -58 which don´t have the medallion in the front it´s okay.

I couldn't own it, well, I could, but it needs paint

I could buy it for my wife I suppose, but its pink, always disliked pink cars. Automatic price reduction for me

I like one of the over-blinged GM 58 cars, in fact, I like a lot of them, provided they arnt pink

One of the plusses of late 50's cars to me is the pastel colors
not seen at any other time, such as pink.

All the seafoam greens, turquoises, yellows, corals, etc. ....
they make the car that much more uniquely 50's. I do not find
pink to be any sort of "shadow" being cast across my manhood.
A lot of men do. I DO find red to be a defining color of those who
need to compensate for underendowment. Go figure !

The pink would not be my first choice, but I could live with it. And I prefer the hood and fenders 'as is'. This is a really nice car...I'd like to see a nicer interior if anything. If it were mine...I'd make the purists cringe by installing some tasteful, low key leather seat covers and do whatever else it took to make the interior 'comfortably upscale'. I'd make dang sure the AC worked and that it had a good stereo system, and I'd make sure the windows and door seals were as good as possible. It would make a great smooth, quiet cruiser.

The changeover from 56 to 57 was dramatic in many ways, and the
move to "more streamlined" allowed the company to scale WAY back
on the interiors, from a previous sumptuous look and feel to a pretty
cheesy package. This was particularly apparent in the up-model cars,
where one would still expect sumptuous and cushy.

I have loved this car since seeing it in magazine pix 30 years ago.
The pink paint and light interior are real attraction points for me. As
would be turquoise, the yellows, or even the light green. Darker colors
that could be had in 1952 or 78 interest me much less. They do not
deliver the "period unique" flavor, even if they might look good on the
car. I would not own a red car, even if it was given to me.

I've always like the coral and white colour combo. I agree with your statement about pink but not the red. I have a red car and have no problems downstairs concerning the statement I see that more so for red euro sports cars or big beefy newer cars--- Mustangs etc....

Might have been a late model run adder. This brochure poster only shows fender spears and only on one of the four shown:
