White car, hubcaps, wide whitewall tires - what color should the rims be painted? About 1/2" of the rim is visible - should it be black or white?

What year, make and model is the car??? You want an opinion on factory originality for your restoration or what we think would be cool for your '60s look mild custom? Without any details, we have no idea. I like chrome wheels without wheel covers personally.

I believe they came from the factory in black on Chryslers.

Black, or maybe a dark metallic gray would look way better than the current white imo.

Here it is with a set of Torq-thrust wheels, 15x8 in back with275-60's and 15x7 in front with 255-60's. I just put these on so the center caps are still not on. These are borrowed from another car; they don't belong on the Chrysler.

I'd go with the same look as in the first pic, but with red rims.

Funny to find this thread this morning...I was just walking around my black '57 Saratoga, wondering if I should use the stock hubcaps on black rims with wide whitewalls, baby moons and red rims with or without wide whitewalls, or a set of early '70s Mopar Rally wheels.

Right now, am leaning towards the stock hubcaps and wide whites...

Love the Torq Thrust Wheels. American Racing? I'm thinking the same for my Firedome but Gray with Wide Whites. I was wondering what Widths & Offsets. Clearance Problems in the Fender Wells?

These are a set of American Racing rims. I had them made in a custom offset in back to fit my 66 Fury. Apparently there is some tie-in to either Billet Specialties or Boyd's (I have forgotten) because Greg Coddington actually made the rims - he and I spoke about the offset. Great guy to deal with.

I need to measure the offset, which I have forgotten, because currently the rims tells me a 'standard' offset 15x8 would fit well on this '58. This is because the rims shown are allowing the tires to touch the springs, just barely. I do recall that the offset I have presently is over 5".

There is ample room under the rear for the 15x8 but a 15x9 would start to have problems unless you really hit the offset and sidewall just right. I can't stand rubbing tires!

The fronts are standard offset 15x7's and they seem to fit well.

I did some measuring today with the American Racing wheels and tires mentioned above:

Back rims: 15x8 with 5-1/4" backspace - unacceptable as tires hit springs
4-3/4" backspace - OK, can be driven but tires will contact springs under some driving cases
4-1/2" backspace - Best fit, should be no problems
4-1/4" backspace - OK, might rub outer wheelwells at times

This is based on the stock width rearend which is 60-5/8" from the outer faces of the brake drums.

I know this is purely a matter of personal taste, but I don't think torq thrust or rally wheels look good on FL cars.

Hey dude..I'm going to the Duran Duran concert tonight right after I get my mullet touched up. Wanna go? You can park at my double wide. My wife, girlfriend, and sister are going so if you bring your old lady there'll be a foursome. Gotta go polish the Torq-thrusts.....

Here's the car with a set of new BFG wide whites from Diamondback.

235-70 on front and 255-70 on back

They are on 15x7's in front and 15x8's in back.

I'm not sure I love this look but it'll do for a while.....

The hubcaps are 56 Imperial. I bought them on Ebay.

Opinions on the look?

Personally I like the hub caps in your first pic better, but I also think you should go with whats pleaseing to your eye
Your car, you look at it most, so whatever you think is best

Greg and his car are still around so....why not? Greg, how do you like the tire sizes you chose here? Any issues with rubbing etc? Would you buy them again? I am thinking of tires for my New Yorker. I was originally going to go with 235/70 out back and 225/70 in the front, but now I'm not sure.
