I have stripped my frame down on my 58 Chrysler to prepare it for sand blasting and repainting.
I have this bracket which is on the drivers side of the frame, just in front of the rear tire.
It looks as if it has been bent up, and there was nothing attached to it when I tore the car down.

Can anyone tell me what this bracket is for, as well as what it should look like so I can straighten it before sand blasting and painting it for reassembly?

looks like a bumper bracket but that doesn't make sense.

Maybe one of them curb whisker brackets? The location is the confusing part so I would assume maybe a curb whisker bracket.

Edit: wait wrong side of the car unless yours is right hand drive. Mystery to me.

That is the area where the brake hose bracket mounts.

You might consider removing it, sand blast and paint and see if a reason for it shows up during reassembly. Is there one of these brackets on the other side. It does appear to be in a rather odd place. Maybe some of the other 58 Chry owners can offer some info. Our 59 Dodge does not have that bracket. Kinda make me wonder if a previous owner put it there and why. Jerry

It is only on the drivers side and had nothing attached to it; it has a light gauge metal strap with 2 screws attaching it to the bracket on the outside edge of the thing.
Havent been able to find it on any 58 frames in pictures I've seen online; not sure what to do with it.
I will keep it so that in future if it becomes obvious what it is I can reuse it I guess.

I checked my '58 New Yorker frame, and it doesn't have that bracket on it. It doesn't have anything in that location. My guess is it is someone's custom exhaust hanger that they made.
