Member Posts: 17 | Hello, Does anyone have the ability to "decode" an IBM build card. I received one from FCA Historical Services but they cannot decode due to staffing constraints etc. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Steve

However, they are not physic so you will have to at least post a photo (<250kB in size) of the build card so they can see the codes and perhaps break it down like I did for my IBM build card: You might want to read through this thread: http://www.forwardlook.net/forums/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=64614&... And, if you need help posting a photo, this primer: http://www.forwardlook.net/forums/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=64340&...

Please copy/provide and we can attempt to cross reference it to the IBM card. Top line of data plate should match top line of the IBM card

Expert 5K+ Posts: 9903 Location: Lower Mainland BC | Sorry, I just trimmed it a bit so it fits the screen better (I was surprised that 235 kB was so large on the screen). 59 explorer - 2017-09-25 2:58 PM 1204 car made on December 4, 1958 454 Desoto (4) Fireflite (5) 4 door hardtop (4) 102218 the 2218th Fireflite Your title should read M451 102218 with M=1959 4=Desoto 5=Fireflite 1=made at Jefferson in Detroit XXX Pearl White top/body/sweep Top line of data plate should match top line of the IBM card As 59 explorer predicted, it ooks like things match your IBM card well. Extreme Veteran Posts: 384 Location: Hershey PA | Steve: Does Bill's translation match your car? With respect to your outside mirror(s)-do you have just the driver's side manual one? Do you have the prismatic inside one? Do you have a dealer plate on the trunk? Or noted on the owners manual?

Member Posts: 17 | There is only a drivers side - remote mirror - adjustable from inside the car. Yes....prismatic mirror inside. No dealer plate on the trunk.

Member Posts: 17 | Also, the car came with 15" tires. I understand that normally it was 14" is that correct. The hubcaps that came with the car were not original. I have a set of hubcaps, but they do not fit the rims (picture below)....were there more than 1 style of hubcap in 1959. Attached is a picture of what I purchased. Expert Posts: 1819 Location: Vancouver, BC | The 1959 DeSoto used 14" tires and 14" wheel covers on 14" rims. The wheel covers in the photo are 14" which is why they won't fit the 15" rims you have. What you must remember is not to assume everything on your car is as it was when the car was built. Nor should you assume that parts on the build card or original bill of sale not on the car now were not on the car when it rolled off the line. Many things can happen to a car over the years, and the tastes and preferences of the owner(s) can also change over the years.

Member Posts: 17 | Yes....I understand that for sure....What I am wondering is if there were other hubcaps produced for the 59's other than the image I was showing? Thanks Steve

Extreme Veteran Posts: 384 Location: Hershey PA | The wheel cover you show was standard on the Firedome and the Fireflite, optional on the Firesweep which had dog dishes standard The Adventurer had it's own wheel cover which was the standard wheel cover with a pointed hub over the emblem, gold anodized No other factory wheel were offered
