So just curious on this since I am searching for a 57 De Soto driver's Dagmar. All the 57 bumpers I've seen have the four holes with bolts in the lower bumper. If they have Dagmars they're mounted in the inboard holes. (Ed's cars picture).

The 58's have six holes with the Dagmars mounted in the middle hole on each side

Except this one here on FL.

So does this 58 have a 57 lower bumper? Or did they switch over during the production run??

Like I said just curious.

Hi, David:

My '58 De Soto only has four bolts on the lower front bumper.

I don't know the answer to your question for a fact but I'd bet that the 58's with the optional dagmars were drilled to order much like bumper wings were on the plymouths. Especially since the 58 upper bumper dips so low unlike the 57 cars upper bumper, they likely could no longer utilize the existing bumper mounting hole.

Don't think they were drilled since I've seen numerous pictures of 58's with six and no dagmars.

For me, I take this stuff skeptically. Do you know for a fact: a. that the cars with the 6 bolts have their factory bumpers? b. the 6 bolt bumpers were not in fact, dagmar equipped bumpers where the dagmars were just removed for whatever reason? 60 years is a LONG time for any number of things to have occurred like an accident or rust/damage replacement or restoration or some kind. In the photo you posted of the rusty unrestored 4 door car above it looks as though that car is a factory/dealer equipped dagmar car. Just seeing that and comparing it to that restored convertible I would think the bumper on that car originally had them and for whatever reason they were removed and instead of leaving a hole/welding it up/replacing it/etc, it just got filled with a bumper bolt. No fuss, no muss.

Well I certainly don't know the answer to how these cars rolled off the showroom floor. From the parts listing and the pictures I see on the internet I think there was a change from 4 holes in 57 to 6 in 58. But that's only conjecture on my part.

Do you know if the 58 Chrysler shared the same lower bumper?

Yes, it is the same bumper as the DeSoto.

I'd like to see what the holes look like.. for the plymouth which is what I'm much more familiar with, on cars ordered with bumper wings the extra hole that's drilled for each wing is round opposed to the other shared holes that are square.
