I recently purchased a 1957 Dodge Royal Lancer 2dr D500.
Does the single four barrel have dual points or single points? My car has single points.
I have IBM card from Chrysler Historical. How can I decode this card?
I have the Ross Roy Data book, however it does not show codes to cross reference to the IBM card

Thanks Bob

Bob: What is the engine number on your D500? The number is at the front of the engine, just beside the oil filler/breather, above the water pump, at the front of the valley cover under the intake manifold.

It should start KD500-nnnn. You need to know the engine number to get the right distributor

Up to engine number KD500-4430 the distributor should be a dual point IBK-4301A like my 56 D500. After that to KD500-11736 it is a single point IBP-4002D. Above KD500-11736 it was back to dual point but a IBP-4002B. See below:

Engine should look like this:

I believe my car has a factory warranty replacement block, replaced in first 6 months. It is devoid of a KD#. Could it be devoid of a kd number and no other engine number in the area you reference, because its a factory warranty replacement block?

The original engine number indicated on IBM card, not on this engine, was KD 500 11186.

Car was built March 19, 1957. visible top right through manifold runner is a casting # 1739429-1 ----------- 9---10--------57

intake manifold cast 1735774-1 foundry date 3-6

LH exhaust manifold cast 1634446 12-14-56 scc

RH manifold cast 1532892-1 all i can see

water pump cast 1733997 foundry date oc 60 tag pp

WCFB CARB TAGGED 26225A DATED B7

thanks so much

Casting numbers do NOT usually cross-over to become Part Numbers (PNs) so those don't help.

If it was me, I would be happy that the IBM card (presumably for the same door-jamb Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) as on the IBM card) says that the original engine was a 325 Hemi, i.e. a KD500. However, with the lack of any number on the block, I would want some documentation that the replacement block was indeed the correct one.

Based on the original engine number, i.e. KD500-11186, it would apparently have had the single point distributor. You should be able to tell us (and yourself) that it is correct based on the tag on the distributor (my 56 D500 has a IBK 4301A (PN 1642 392) as shown below. (Yours should be IBP-4002B PN 1779 952)

The original carburetor for your D500 should have been a 2622S as shown in the list below:

Regarding carb, my mistake, actually its 2622sa not 5a on the carb. It shows up as that number on other parts lists for 1957 D500.

Assuming that your distributor is an IBP-4002D, single point, the point set should be an 1818 568. Plenty of those to be found via Google:

Fella's I'll put my money on that all D500's were equipment with a dual point distributor, that was standard with all 4bbl carbs, even my 57 Canadian with the 325 poly 4bblhas the dual point distributor but above all else check your IBM card. It's a bit particular with the replacement block I believe most machine shops removed the original and replaced the original numbers with xxx to indicate a rebuild many different methods have have discussed on this forum regarding restamped blocks

Let me do a follow up on this car I was down at that shop this am and it was my intent to take some photos and somehow have misplaced my original photo file from when I bought the cars. I'll post the the vin and body plate, and some shots of the engineā€¦..and just maybe I'm wrong, it may in fact not Canadian built. I bought that 57 dr. and 58 4dr. out of Brandon Man. In any case my escape clause as stated "check the IBM CARD I just have to practise what I preach
