Location: Cleveland, OH | Hello,
I am in need of the left rear axle for my wife's 1956 Chrysler Windsor Town & Country. Apparantly at some point in the past, the axle broke and someone replaced it with a small bolt circle axle and drum. I just bought wire wheels for the car and obviously, one of them doesn't fit. I need both the axle and the drum. All 1953-56 Chrysler/Desoto wagons should be the same, as is 1953-56 Imperial sedan. Axle is 31-5/8 long, 16 splines, with the 5x5.5 bolt circle. Photo of the correct axle/drum is shown below.
Thank you! |

Location: Muskego, WI | I found the axles, I must have sold the drums a while back. They are exactly as you described, they will need new wheel bearings. By the way, I have a 3.36 gear ratio rear differential for your rear end. The 1956 axles have a 8 & 3/4 ring gear, but they do not interchange with the 1957 and later differentials. Your car, being a wagon, would have 3.73 (auto) or 3.91 (manual) gears, 3.36 gears would give you better cruising engine RPM. I have no use for the gears...
