Regular Posts: 68 Location: Seven Valleys, PA | I am amazed that I cannot find this info on this site or the web in general: What was the diameter of OEM exhaust pipes for our cars (in general) and specifically, dual exhaust on a '59 Dodge D500 (383/4bbl)?
Anyone know for sure? Thanks!

This isn't "for sure" but based on this tech bulletin for the 56 D500-1, I would guess that the 59 D500 would have the same 2.5" diameter exhaust: There is a 59 Super D500 article that Serge posted near the end of the the D500 Magazine Thread (but it doesn't mention diameter ): http://www.forwardlook.net/forums/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=64334&... "1955-61 Dodge V8 DUAL All Aluminized Steel Starting at: $420.00 Complete Dual exhaust system indcludes (2) exhaust pipes, (2) mufflers and (2) tail pipes. Photo depicted is generic and is shown so that you may see the quality of our craftsmanship and the type of bending. For systems requiring pipes 2" and up, we use 14 gauge aluminized steel tubing. For pipes less than 2" we use 16 gauge aluminized steel tubing. Mufflers are also constructed of aluminized steel, for longer life. I contacted Waldron's to see what size exhaust they use and if they know if its OEM (and if their system would fit my car). They have not yet gotten back to me.</p> Edited by fivespeedv8 2018-05-16 12:02 PM

Expert Posts: 2196 Location: Muskego, WI | I have purchased exhaust systems from both Waldron's (once) and Classic Exhaust (twice). All three setups were pretty good, I was able to install each system myself in my garage. Each system needed some tweaking, but nothing major (slight bend adjustments, or cutting off the tail pipe tips and rotating them so they were straight). I purchased two exhaust systems at one time from Classic Exhaust to save on shipping. As for your size, measure the outlet of you exhaust manifold and how large of a gasket flange you have. That should give you an idea of the general size at minimum.
