Veteran Posts: 118 Location: Maryland | All, I'm planning to do a 413 long ram swap on my Poly 318 powered '61 Plymouth Wagon. Rumor has it that it would be a good idea to upgrade the torsion bars. I was told to either find a pair of big block bars, or use Imperial bars. If true, do they sell them new? Where can you get them used? Any info or input would be appreciated. Rob | ||

Expert 5K+ Posts: 8443 Location: Perth Australia | Not sure if you really need to. The 318 poly is quite a lump of an engine, I don't think the BB was that much heavier Just check the weights, but this is all said without checking a parts book which is where the answer lies | ||

Expert 5K+ Posts: 5006 | yeah i am using 326 torsion bars on my dodge for the 392 hemi. Its only 100 lbs heavier but I easily took 100 lbs off(intake, starter, manifold, water pump) others... | ||

Actually a B is lighter than a 318 and a B is only 10-15 pounds heavier than a RB. Also the Polys used more cooling water and aluminum parts for BB's are readily available. I'd be surprised if a RB is much heavier than a Poly. Of course a BB is making more power and if you want to use it, heavier T-bars and sway bars are required. | ||

According to a Magazin article from 57 or 58, quoting Mopar engineers, the Poly is heavier than a low deck big block. A couple of years ago a Mopar magazine bought various B/RB engines and weighed and measured them. There wasn't much difference between a B and RB angine and if I remember correctly some B/RB even weighed about the same. Also keep in mind that the Poly uses a lot more cooling water. I wouldn't be surpises if the Poly heads would weight twice that of the 413's. | ||
