So the Imperial finally showed up, but there's a few things that were excluded from the description.

Looks like it has some weird after market cruise control installed, as well as an empty bracket under the steering wheel, a switch under the dash and a button under the dash too.

Any idea what all this is? I'll start tracing things down myself once it stops raining but thought I'd ask to see if there were typical things done to these cars.

Will attach some pictures of what I'm talking about...

Also, the original rear view mirror is very sad and laying down. Any tips on perking these up when the screw down base is already all the way down?

I have stiffened the sagging r/v mirrors by replacing the worn nylon
washer with something beefier. Anything will do. Letting a little Coke
dry in the socket and on the parts to make them sticky can do the job
too.

Just adding a washer underneath what you already have in there works great too for the mirror. The single switch could be your power antenna. The original switches looked like that but I would have expected it on the other side of the dash for a Chrysler.

That cruise control is vintage 1980's aftermarket.

I worked at a place in the early eighties where we installed those, along with A/C.

Is the original carb on the engine? The flange with the empty hole looks pretty typical for an add-on manual carburetor choke cable.

Those are all aftermarket/add-on switches
The push button could be horn or maybe and aftermarket elec windshield washer
Some here will disagree but even after perking up that mirror, your visibility with it will still be about the same

Thanks for the info, do you remember how they were installed? Is it just something that ties into the throttle linkage?

I believe it is the original carb, I'll post a picture when I get home.

Did the carb run that poorly that you needed such a thing? Or a better question might be, did these older carbs have auto chokes similar to carbs in the 60's? I'm only familiar (and not an expert) with cars back to mid 50's.

Thanks, I did notice there's a little chrome washer sprayer on the hood that seemed out of place. Will have to compare to others to see if it's stock or not.

that chrome washer sprayer on the hood is probably the original/stock one
this era of Mopar had the Jiffy Jet washer system with the bag that hangs on the inner fender and a foot operated pump lever under the dash
many cars were retro-fitted with a modern elec pump and a push button switch because it was easier than replacing a rotted washer bag or other parts
here's a thread with some good pics of the system

You were right, it has an after market washer pump installed. I can see it tucked away under what must be the cruise control component, along with a plastic washer tank. The original bag is still there along with the hose for it, but no longer used.

The toggle switch could be a kill switch to the ignition or even a 12v wire to a car stereo that might of been in there... Is that a cut wire and a fuse holder just about you accelerator pedal?

My mirror kept dropping. I tried a couple of different things but when driving would still slowly get lower and lower. I used some rubber from a normal balloon. Just the right thickness to grip with no forcing...

That washer button is the same as I use but I still use the bag. I fitted the button to the foot pump assembly and an electric windshield motor(eBay $3) close to the bag..

The toggle switch turned out to be a blower on the back windshield. Did these cars have back blowers on them or is that entire system after market?

Yes, they had an optional rear defogger system. It should be option number 324 on your PNT/TRM tag located on the radiator support.

well some questions are answered about the condition how incredible the dash was. sight unseen cars are always a surprise basket.

Still look good, to me.

Here are some pics of the original WCFB carb with vacuum secondaries. Note that i had some problem with it so i replace it with a modern Edelbrock, shame on me ...

Thanks, that looks just like the one I have in there. So mine is technically working, but the car is stumbling on initial acceleration. It gets a little better after it warms up, but I can tell it's not performing like it should. May have to take it into a shop that knows more about carb tune ups on these older cars as I don't have much experience. Tuned my last car, a 66 Lincoln, but it had an Edelbrock also, so I was able to follow the directions. I would try that here as well, but I got a feeling it may need a rebuild.

Not a shame Phil, you are going to be me ashamed when the car let you at the side of the road with the WCFB. It would be nice to have the original but the parts are just not there.

Restore this carb to new cost more then $600.00, it is just too much.

I remember when I found a "NOS in the box 59" D500 carb like this on Carlisle, I barely sold it for $250.00 to a guy in Norway. Nobody want it I guess.

What model Edelbrock fits these cars? It might be better to simply upgrade and keep the original in the trunk in case anyone every does want to restore to stock. The car is just very sluggish on acceleration, especially when cold.

I installed a 1406 Performer but you need an adapter to install it; not for the 4 bolts but for the 4 butterfly holes which are larger. I use an wood spacer (which i installed some years ago because i've problem with the WCFB) and widen the four holes !!! On the pic you see the sizes of the WCFB and Edelbrock before i widen the spacer. You need also a new air filter.
I've posted a tutorial on this adpatation on my forum but it is in french (and you need to be logged)

Thanks for pointing that out, I just ran across a document yesterday that mentioned this, so that's nice to know it's stock and not after market. Still odd they put that toggle switch down below instead of on the dash. Must have been an after thought for them on the option packages, after the dash design had been completed and was in production.

Thanks for the information, I really like the look of the original air filter, I'd hate to lose that unique look. How far apart are the tops of these carbs when comparing the WCFB and Edelbrock? Wonder if an adapter could be made there as well.

Well, found another something that doesn't appear to be factory on the car. A second radiator. I'm not sure why this is on the car as it doesn't appear to be hooked up to anything on the top side. I haven't looked under it yet, but I'll do that today. Attaching a picture of it.

I guess I haven't noticed it until now since I've almost always had a car with AC and they typically have an extra radiator like this for the AC, but since this car doesn't have a compressor, I have no idea why it would be here.

Any ideas?

That's the condenser for an A/C unit, typically sits in front of the OEM Rad. Is there any sign of any A/C anywhere on the car?

There was not factory installer A/C in your car: the two upper grilles are tilted type when ther's A/C. See mine (the pic was originally taken to show the mirrormatic ..)

I must check for height of the two carbs because before installing the Edelbrock i tried a lot of other air filter but i assume that with the spacer between carb and intake you'll not have enough room for another adapter below original air filter and edelbrock carb

Agree completely. Here is this nice dash with nice controls for everything EXCEPT the rear window defogger. But then again the 58 model is the exact same way. No idea about other makes, models and years. I think my 60' F has rear window defogger but I haven't started my quest on that one yet.....

My spiced up dash...it was not an easy task mostly reconnecting and putting all the hardware back is the big problem for me since my hands don't fit anywhere underneath. Imperial dash has potential even if you want to delete the crash pad like I did.

Not that I've seen. No compressor, no button under the heater slider. I haven't decoded the plate on the frame yet to see what options it came with, so maybe I'll go figure out how to do that.
