My car is a 58 with a 57 front clip and I am trying to figure out which engine I have.
There are NO numbers cast on either side of the block. The front right has the casting number 1737929, and the front left is stamped P31 119162.
Can anyone tell me what I have?
Thanks

Could it be a 57 Plymouth Plaza 318 Engine from a Suburban or Taxi?

Is the Distributer at the front or rear?

P 31 = 1957 Plymouth V8s' (the full line, Plaza, Savoy, Belvedere and Fury)

Casting numbers are rarely the part number in my experience.

I would have thought that the engine number would be stamped on the block, in front of the intake manifold/valley cover (at least it is on 56-57 Dodges).

Posting a photo would help.

distributor is at the rear of the engine.

The timing chain cover is below the intake manifold. The only stamped numbers I see are the ones listed.
