Says it's from some southern area. Is anyone else kinda doubting this is actually a police car? I mean, it's a sedan like most PDs used, and you have the basic dog dish caps, but to get the slant 6 rather than a V8 seems like an odd choice. Plus, the mascara... why on earth would a PD go with having the mascara trim on a work car? If it's not a police car, it's still a somewhat unusually trimmed sedan with that headlight trim. I suppose we'd need to see the data plate and interior to know for sure. Also, note the seats. They look like taller modern seats with headrests in the front. Looks like the squared off steering wheel too.

Location: Lower Mainland BC		Not sure about the trim or the Belvedere instead of a Savoy but according to the Sanow and Bellah 1956-78 Mopar Police Carbook, the 1961 Plymouth could be had with the "taxi-tough" 30-D 225, 1 bbl, 145 bhp, 215 lb-ft, slant six with either a TorqueFlite 3 spd automatic or A-745 3 spd standard transmission with 11" heavy duty clutch. No mention of the steering wheel.

Location: northern germany		The steering wheel is a 1960 Aero wheel. If the red dash is how it came, very unlikely a cop car. I'd bet it is a regular 2 d sedan, very smartly painted to look like a 4 door.....

I seriously doubt it’s a police vehicle. Aside from all the issues already pointed out, and it being a 2 door, the gumball light is not correct - late 80’s or early 90’s.

A neat car, regardless. She would be nice restored back to original livery, the 2-door post Belvedere is not too often seen.

that maybe but a ton of small towns bought cars the town or county could afford , even used and that slant six would get you to an
emergency just as fast as 2bbl 318 ---------------------------------------------------later

Location: BELTSVILLE, MARYLAND 20705		I have a real 61 Plymouth Police Car. Its less than a savoy. It's a fleet car. No frills. It doesn't even have the stainless around the back window. It does have big brakes, a battery shield, a huge alternator, sway bar, and 15 inch wheels with small moon hub caps.and 7 leaf springs instead of the usual 5 . Powered by a 383 4 bbl HP motor. Its Colorado Pursuit Vehicle (verified)..

Would they all have the special 'certified' speedometer? Or was that not required on all police cars back then?

Definitely. I had two '61 Dodge pursuit cars, both had certified speedometers as well.

Location: Parts Unknown		Hold on a minute ... I owned a 66 Coronet fleet car, sold to the Libby, MT
police department. No certified speedo. It had a few odd holes drilled in the
dash for a radio and perhaps something else. Near as I could tell, it was
either a detective's car or used for more adminitrative purposes. But it WAS
a fleet vehicle (stripper) and it WAS bought by a police department.

"police car" does not necessarily mean Hi-Po pursuit vehicle.

Location: BELTSVILLE, MARYLAND 20705		Fleet vehicles were Fleet vehicles. They all weren't POLICE PACKAGE CARS. Some were taxi's and some were just municipal cars, used like for code enforcement or parking enforcement. Theses would NOT have certified speedos or any heavy duty stuff. Los Angeles bought a bunch of fleet Vehicles for the LAX Airport in 1961. They were strippers. No nothing. Small brakes, no power steering or brakes, slant sixes. Straight vinyl interior, rubber mat floors etc. Basic utility cars.
