Location: Southern CA | So I just started my car after eight months spent detailing the engine compartment and have a new leak that appears to originate between the engine and transmission. I can’t find a good photo of the rear of a block to determine a source. Are the any freeze plugs or anything else on the rear of the block that could be the source? The arrow in the photo is pointing to the area where the coolant is running down from. Thanks,

| It didn't get cold in CA did it?
there is a jacket plug back there but I think its oil not coolant.
maybe the rear lower exhaust stud? Maybe the heat expanded and the exhaust manifold stud(which i believe goes into the water jacket(and should have sealant).
Otherwise? head gasket? take the cover off and check torque on head? Or maybe the heater hose(maybe to far off to the right).
Is it "running" or just slight drip? |

| he talks about the "upper" stud needing sealant due to oil, but I believe the lowers open into the water jacket and need sealant also.

Location: Southern CA | Thanks for the advice guys, I’m happy to say I found the leak. Nothing like a new day and fresh perspective to start looking again. So the water outlet is leaking right next to the right side bolt, where the slotted gasket is very narrow, the coolant is running down the side of the timing cover gasket, then along the side of the oil pan gasket all the way to the back where is finally drips. Not a drop anywhere along the path. I’ll cut my own gasket this time, with round bolt holes instead of the oval holes in the “universal” gasket that I bought. What a relief!
