Just wanted to thank everyone with their help and suggestions on helping me find a 4bbl Oil bath air cleaner for my 1955 Dodge Custom Royal Lancer Conv. I was in the process of changing the 2bbl intake and carb. on the 270 hemi to a factory cast iron 4bbl and Carter wcfb I pulled off a "55 Dodge Station wagon many years ago but never found a air cleaner nor really knew what it looked like. This site is great for in no time I received pictures of what a 1955 Dodge 4bbl air cleaner looked like and other '1955/1956 Chrysler 4bbl oil bath air cleaners. Many thanks to 56D500boy for his detailed site on how to convert a oil bath to a paper element filter. It took a while but I came across a Chrysler 4bbl oil bath on eBay that was affordable and not in too bad condition. I followed 56D500boy detailed site which saved a lot of time. The hardest part in the conversion was cutting the oil bath parts out of the unit but it was all done with a Dremel and quite a few of cut off disks. I added a 1/4" grey gasket in the bottom of the housing to better seal the paper element. I enclosed some pictures of the finished unit. Unfortunately I have not been able to test the unit for the motor developed rod bearing noise and I am in the process of checking out how bad it is. May need some suggestions for I may need to rebuild the 270.

Glad to have helped in some way. *IF* I was to do it again, I would use my new "best friend", the Dremel E-Z Lock system and cut-off disks. I used metal snips and a grinder but that was brutal.

Sorry to hear about your rod knock. Hope it isn't too serious.

Photos took a bit to show up but now that they are here, they look good.

Congrats.
