I have to replace my 5 year old battery and wondered if someone can advise me on the maximum size battery I can replce it with. I don't have an electric fuel pump installed so sometimes I have to crank it over a number of times to start it. Thanks

I always buy a batt with the longest warranty life as possible that will fit in the batt tray.

You might want to consider going with a Pertronix ignition conversion and Pertronix coil. I switched and my engine fires right up much better than it did with dual points and a normal 12V coil and ballast resistor.

Agree. I am running a Group 24 battery in my 56 Dodge but I think that a Group 27 would fit. I think a Group 27 is what a 56 Chrysler would need. I am in Canada and am looking at this one:

I'd go with a Group 27 with the highest CCA (Cold Cranking Amps) you can find.

Had some time this (Sunday) afternoon so I drove the old girl to Canadian Tire (just for the drive) to check out the Group 27 battery size. I measured 12.5" at the top (and presumably at the bottom). The maximum space that I have in my existing 56 Dodge rubber battery tray is about 11.5". The Group 24 that I am running is about 10.5". The larger battery tray (for the Group 27 batteries) was 12.875" long but I don't have that tray.

Too bad. Oh well.

Now that's interesting. I am talking about the searchable parts book for the 1955-58 Mo Par line. I have this book in its original format (paper in a binder) with pen and ink corrections made by partsmen at the local Chrysler dealership back in the day as they say, but I didn't know there was apparently a copy on line that can be searched. Do you have the website url where that resource can be found?

Yes, I have posted the link several times during my 2 years on this forum.

Downloadable service manuals are available here:

http://www.mymopar.com/index.php?pid=109

The parts catalogs are available here:

http://www.mymopar.com/index.php?pid=107

How I personally use them is shown here:

http://www.forwardlook.net/forums/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=66548&...

Have fun. I have the paper versions for both the full lines for 56 American Mopars and 56 Canadian Mopars but I use the pdf version daily.
