Location: The Mile High City | I am going to replace the standard bulbs in the dashboard with LED bulbs. When I turn on my lights, they are (for the most part) white lights. Are the dashboard lights for a 1957 / 1958 De Soto supposed to be white or green? Thanks for your help, Mike |

Location: So. Cal | I don't remember seeing a colored filter in front of the bulb on my '58 either, but it's been too long to say for sure. If anything, I remember a yellowish hue, but that was probably just from the natural bulb light. |

Not sure what a 57 Desoto should look like but I am sure that the bulbs themselves were just clear, Probably Type 57 which translates to to BA9s in the LED world. (see photos below). As for colour, there was/is very likely a green plastic shield that went around the area when the bulb and bulb holder is pushed into the bulb receiver at the back of the gauge. These shields are likely fragile and might have broken by now, perhaps letting both white and green light out to varying degrees.

Location: The Mile High City | Thanks, all! I removed the instrument cluster and it has pale blue shades for the two lights below the speedometer. As far as I could tell, these shades had very little effect on the color of the dashboard lights - still a warm white or yellow. The shades were missing from my parts speedometer. I ordered BA9s replacement bulbs and I could either replace them with white or green. From what I know, I have to use the standard bulbs for the turn signals so they will blink properly?

Location: So. Cal | You can use LEDs for the turn signals too, but you might need to install an electronic flasher with them. Not a big deal. |
