I have learned that the IBM cards can be used to fill in the blanks on a broadcast sheet. I have also learned but do not and WILL NOT PROBABLY ever understand how the body plate numbers relate to any other documentation (the IBM cards and the broadcast sheet).

That said, in reviewing some of the body plate images that I have collected, and particularly 57 D500 plates, I seem to find *some* correlations and some misses.

The images below include the hand drawn and labeled 57 Dodge broadcast sheet the Neil Vedder and LD3Greg put together some time ago and a cleaned and annotated copy of ictfatboy's 57 Dodge Broadcast sheet. The point of these is "D-500 Eng," = 372 and "Super D-500" = 49_ on the broadcast sheet.

These are followed by images of three 57 Dodge D-500 or Super D-500 (supposedly) and one 1958 Dodge D-500 body plate images.

1. The first of these is for a 57 Dodge D-500 wagon:

Body Code 2568 with body plate codes of 293, 395, 421, 281, 502, 513 and 585, i.e. NO "372" code.

2. The second is for a 57 Dodge D-500 4dr hardtop

Body Code 2589 with body plate codes of 293, 395, 421, 469, 485, 491, 513, 585, no "372" but some repeats, e.g. 293, 395, 421, 513 and 585.

3. The third is supposed to be for a 57 Dodge Coronet 2dr Super D-500 (supposedly)

With Body Code 2142 and body plate codes of 292, 485, 491 and 524. So similar 292 vs. 293 codes and perhaps (or not) importantly 491 which would be the Super D-500 code on a 57 Dodge Super D-500.

4. The last body plate is supposed to be for a 1958 Dodge Custom Royal Lancer Convertible D500

Body Code 365 and body plate codes of 293, 323, 334, 362, 373,395, 406, 417, 422, 486, 512, 523 and 605 (that baby was loaded). Commonality to the the 57 D500s is the "293". (293 does not show up on the 57 broadcast sheets, even more fun).

UPDATE: I searched the forum for comments on "293" by either Neil Vedder or LD3Greg (Leggatt) and found a post by Neil that suggested that "293" was the code for the Torqueflite transmission. That would make sense, i.e. that a D-500 would get a 3 speed torqueflite ( - which suggests than 292 = 2 spd Powerflite (maybe)). That said, why would a Super D-500 get a Powerflite transmission?
