I have a 1960 Saratoga 4dr hardtop. I have been looking everywhere for new floor rugs and can only find rugs for the 2 dr model. All company i talk too can't confirm that the 2dr and 4dr uses the same floor rug. Does anyone know where I can find rugs for the 4 door hardtop? Thanks

Hypothetically, the floor is the same, but the rear seat is in a more forward position on a 2DHT than on a 4DHT.

That would mean that the carpet for the rear floor could be a little too short if it's cut without margin.

Lift out the rear seat and measure the needed lenght for the rear carpet, from under the seat where the front carpet overlaps to the end of the carpet under the rear seat.

Also, see this thread for diy

Thanks for the information. When we got the car there was no carpet or headliner and we are trying to find what to do. I was under the impression that there was a lot mor 4 doors made than 2 doors so i find it puzzling as to why only 2 drht carpets are available. Frustrating. Will look at the DIY and see how to tackle this issue. Thanks again

Oh. One more question. If the back rug is shorter on the 2drht and i use it in a 4drht. Would that mean that i would be missing some carpet under the front seat where nobody can really see it?

Perhaps - in the best of worlds

The rear legroom in a 4DS/4DHT is 44.1"
The rear legroom in a 2DHT is 39.6"

Hence the carpet might be 4.5" too short, but I doubt it.

Measure the full floor lenght, from the cowl insulation paper (or remains of it) to up under the seat.
With this measurement the supplier should be able (if willing) to confirm that the 2DHT carpet is sufficient for a 4DS/4DHT.

If not, a piece of carpet in the same color can be sewn to the rear carpet.

Thanks, I wish I had your knowledge for sure. I am new to the forum and new to this car model. Information is hard to find. I measured the car and not sure how the "The rear legroom" as you stated is 44.1" vs. 39.6" because when I measure from the back seat, 44.1" takes me to the front driver passed the seat. I am sure I an not understanding this correctly. I am glad that someone was finally able to confirm that the back section of the 2DRHT & 4DRHT is not the same leg room.

My experience with the carpet people has been.... if we don't say it fits the 4drht, we have no information for you.

When I purchased this car it needed a few things one is the carpet and the front door sill plate. I figured how hard can it be to put a rug in a car, well apparently it's a complicated process lol

I have worked with some 4 way stretch carpet before, can it be used for floor carpet in the car? I used it before in the trunk but never as the main cabin carpet.

Just curious, do you just search online to find information or is there a place I can go to get lots of info about the 60 Saratoga 4DRHT?

Thanks so much, your help and time is greatly appreciated

Now it gets more difficult; legroom is actually one of the most complicated automotive measurements. The reason is it can be controversial: Should you measure it with the front seats all the way forward or all the way back? The Society of Automotive Engineers -- the organization responsible for horsepower ratings -- uses one consistent measuring system. But it doesn't give much insight into exactly how much room a driver or passenger has.

Therefore, you must consider that there's 4.5" shorter "space" in comparison between a 2DHT and a 4DS/4DHT - which could mean that the rear seat is shorter or moved more toward the front seat.

The rear shelf is much longer on a 2DHT, because the rear seat must be more forward due to the headspace.

I have no experience, nor knowledge of 4-way stretch carpets - sounds interesting though.

Most of the information comes from factory manuals and documents - there's not much on the net. This site is THE Place for the Forward Look cars - we have the greatest information and knowledge. Naturally, there's several guys with deeper knowledges of certain year and models.

This is also the place that can help guys to decode their VIN and SON tags

Well thank you because you have answered a lot of questions I had in the differences between the 2DRHT and the 4DRHT. I guess I'll just have to ask a bunch of questions to carpet people.

As for the 4 way stretch carpet they have a greta short video here that shows how it works and it looks amazing and it's cheap too.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BtCJIWedjAs

I addressed this issue with my 61 New Yorker in this previous thread:

Give them a call they were very friendly and willing to work it out.

That's them Auto Custom Carpet Inc. Just to clarify the area that needs to be lengthened on the 2 door carpet to work for a 4 door is the triangular section between the side of the rear seat and the sill plate. On the original 'sewn' carpet in the 61 NYer, the small triangular extensions are sewed to the main carpet. My personal preference is for 'molded' carpet for a tight fit and a clean appearance so that is where they let the carpet run long when putting the carpet in the mold. For those who prefer the original sewn carpet, you will have to find a different solution. Hope the images help to explain the area in question for lengthening.

WOW! Beautiful car!!! I am talking with them now they are looking to see what they can do. She mentioned that the carpet comes in 40" wide only so the front piece would we 40" and the back 40" but I guess this is where I would be short to make it all the way under the back seat and not have the missing little triangular carpet area. I guess they can sew a little extra square of fabric on the ends so it goes under the seat to cover those triangular area.

Was that carpet hard to install or is it just some spray contact glue and lay it down?

Also, they asked me loop or pile? I was born in '75, I have no idea what would be in a 1960 Saratoga 4DRHT...lol

Loop curl was standard in the Saratoga.
Cut pile was standard on the New Yorker.

Cut pile gives a more luxury feeling.

Arland,

On my friend Chris's all original 1961 Saratoga 4 door hardtop, it has the original carpets (loop) and they are molded.

>>>>>>>>> UPDATE FOR ANYONE IN THIS SITUATION... <<<<<<<<<

I ACTUALLY FOUND THE 4 DOOR HARDTOP FOR THE 1960 SARATOGA CARPET AT THIS PLACE, http://newark-auto.com

I TALKED TO JOYCE and she confirmed they have the pattern for the 4DRHT, VERY NICE AND WAS MORE THAN HAPPY TO CHECK ON EVERYTHING AND ANSWER ALL THE QUESTIONS.

Once I have the carpet and install it, I'll post back to let people know how it turned out.
Thanks to everyone that was very helpful and shared their knowledge with me!

what would be the best spray glue to use to attach a floor carpet. I DO NOT have a spray gun, so would have to be brush on or spray can.

I have used a 3M spray can adhesive for trim and carpet for years with very good results. Here are some additional original carpet pictures showing the seams in the sewn original carpet, the screws used to hold the rear edge in place, the original heel pad that I refurbished and used on the new carpet, the wire for the front seat 'cigar lighter', and the fact that there was no collar around the foot operated high beam switch. It may all be different for other models or other years but this is a 61 NYer.

Thanks for the pictures, made it easier to see where the carpet should be since mine came without it so had no idea. Now, I looked at the 3M spray glue and they have many options 45, 72, 77, 90. Which do you use? I think I need something the will stick well but will give me some time before it does to make sure the carpet is looking good.

I'm not familiar with the four different products you listed so you will have to see which one best fits the needs for what it is and how you want to use it. Post some pics when you're done.
