Veteran Posts: 169 Location: Cochrane, Alberta | The flathead 6 in my 56 Regent was badly worn and had major blow by. I don’t feel like shelling out big bucks for a full machining and rebuild on a flat6 so I have been looking for a replacement near by (Western Canada). I’ve been offered very cheap a 318 that was pulled from a 1958 Plymouth California car; the owner says it runs but never drove it, but the car was a daily driver before this engine was swapped out. My question is, would a 1958 318 bolt into my 56 dodge and match up with the Powerflite pushbutton transmission? If not my search will continue!

Expert 5K+ Posts: 9900 Location: Lower Mainland BC | Todd: Contact jerrybev. He has a 58 318 in his 56 Plymouth (same as a Canadian Dodge) so it should work. http://www.forwardlook.net/forums/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=71602&...

Hey Todd, if you had put your location under your name I would know where you are! So where are you ? I have a 270 complete engine (core) for free (1956 Canadian Dodge so Plymouth). Don't know if it will fit your trany or not, it had a 3 speed std.

Veteran Posts: 169 Location: Cochrane, Alberta | I didn’t realize my location wasn’t on my profile; I just updated it. I’m just west of Calgary; if you want to PM me with the info on your engine that would be great!

Expert 5K+ Posts: 9654 Location: So. Cal | You will need a different bellhousing & adapter, but the trans itself should swap over. Motor mounts are different of course. V8 steering linkage is different too. The 6 linkage may interfere with your V8 oil pan, so you will need to check it out.

Veteran Posts: 169 Location: Cochrane, Alberta | I’ll have to do some digging and see what’s available out there for engines, bell housings, etc. I really didn’t mind the flat 6 but can’t justify spending 5k on rebuilding one! If anyone nearby has a good flat 6 they’re willing to part with I would drop oneback I’m; but a v8 would be nice too

I sent you a email with notes and pictures. Please confirm receipt of email. I am going to post the pictures here for anyone that wants a 270 engine (core) for FREE. Ray: You might be old Ray, but you aren't (necessarily) stupid. The system doesn't allow you to attach new photos to a PM. However, if the photo has previously been uploaded to this forum, you can insert it into your PM via this format img src="TheImageLocationThatYouGrabViaARightClickOnTheImageInQuestion (with a < at the start and " and > at the end of that) Edited by 56D500boy 2019-06-24 1:00 PM

Not a chance in Hades of me learning that!

Veteran Posts: 169 Location: Cochrane, Alberta | Thanks for the pics and the PM old Ray; I really appreciate it! I’m still kicking tires on what to put into my 56 to get her back on the road. Any other good running engines out there in Western Canada that are up for grabs?
