Expert Posts: 2196 Location: Muskego, WI | Great car, love the 4 door hard tops. Needs a little TLC and some wheels that better fit the car, but it has so much potential. This also has to be about the first 1960 Plymouth I've seen with a 318 V8 that has a TorqueFlite trans instead of a PowerFlite or stick.

This also has to be about the first 1960 Plymouth I've seen with a 318 V8 that has a TorqueFlite trans instead of a PowerFlite or stick. After 35 years looking for 60 Plymouths I can tell you Powerflite cars are outnumbered by Torqueflites by a large margin. I'd say, out of autos, 85% are Torqueflites. A 4 d ht was higher priced than a 2 door and was available, unlike the 2 door ht, only as a V8. I have never ever seen a 4d ht with a Powerflite or a stick.

Expert Posts: 2196 Location: Muskego, WI | I don't doubt that the TFs outnumbered the PFs as by 1960, but it just seems that the cars that I've come across with 318s have PF trans. The big blocks were always TFs, but it seems like the PF was still a pretty popular choice behind the 318 which is a shame as you lose so much performance by not having a true first gear. This is also a Fury, top of the Plymouth line, so makes sense that it would be better optioned. Could a 4 door hardtop be had outside of Fury trim? There was a beautiful green and white 1960 Plymouth 4 door hardtop on Craigs List in Florida back in April or May. That car had a 318, do you recall if that was a TF as well? Was it a Fury? I don't recall the add specifying or being able to see the buttons in the pictures.

Expert 5K+ Posts: 7400 Location: northern germany | The 4 door hardtop was only available as a Fury. Yes, I remember that gorgeous green/white 4dht! Pretty sure it was a Torqueflite.

Expert 5K+ Posts: 7400 Location: northern germany | Unfortunately I only posted one picture, but it looks pretty busy on the transmission control panel. Very likely a Torqueflite. http://forwardlook.net/forums/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=71083&post... A member here bought it. Would love to hear from him and to see some pictures... Veteran Posts: 206 Location: California | Yes, that Green and White Fury had a 318 and a torque flight and now lives in southern California. It is one of the finest 1960 Fury four door hardtops you'll ever see. :^)
