hi
I have an extra speedometer for a 56 Plymouth and want to know if it is any good. How to verify? I notice there is a hole on back side. Should I take a small phillips or a small flat head screw driver? (which one?) and stick it in and try to turn it slowly clockwise and see if it is stuck/moving?
thank you

You could put a screwdriver bit into a drill chuck and spin the speedo with the drill (get the direction correct first).

The hole is .104" square. For testing purposes, 1000 rpm is 60 mph and 1000 turns is one mile on the odometer.

Whatever fits nuggly. I suspect that a small(er) Phillips would work best.

With a piece of steel rod and a bench grinder you can make a square drive shaft that will fit the hole better than a screwdriver tip.
