Subject: WCFB (2588S) Carb: Metering Rod adjustment

Here's a very technical question for our Carb experts:
- My '57 Fireflite has a Carter WCFB (2588S) 4BBL carb.
- When I follow the rebuild manual and adjust the Metering rod lift mechanism, it prevents the primary throttle plates from fully opening.
- This adjustment of the metering rods is to lift them out of their wells as the throttle lever advances.
- The attached diagram shows the Metering rod arm adjustment on top of the carb.
- The only way to get my primary throttle plates to fully open, is to adjust this arm so it can rise all the way up before the Metering Rod piston tops-out.
- Has anyone else noticed this?
- Bending the Pump operating arm on the side of the carb does not correct this.
- The only solution I can come up with is to add some material to the tip of the Metering Rod Arm so it starts raising the Metering Rods as soon as the throttle starts to advance.
- Any ideas?

Thanks!
Brian Davis
