Veteran Posts: 169 Location: Cochrane, Alberta | I was extremely lucky recently to purchase a 1958 Fargo Sweptside project truck that has been laying in the weeds on a farm for 30 years. Doing some digging on the internet, it looks like only 11 Canadian Fargo Sweptsides were built, and of those 11 only 3 had the v8; the one I found is a v8. Anyways, being that I love forward look cars doing all of this research got me thinking; because Exner has nothing to do with the Sweptside trucks, can they truly be called a forward look vehicle? Either way I’m thrilled to own it and it will be a huge project to put it back to factory new (it’s a coral and cream 2 tone truck) but it will be worth it; to me a finned 58 pickup is very cool!

Expert 5K+ Posts: 9855 Location: Lower Mainland BC | Todd: Congrats. Nice find. In my opinion, because the 57-59 Sweptsides used the 57-59 Dodge wagon rear fenders and taillights and we consider the 57-59 Dodges to be "Forward Look", the 57-59 Sweptsides are therefore "Forward Look". The 57s if not the 58s also had the Fookerangs so again, Forward Look. This 58 Sweptside is local to me (not for sale) and I could go out (to Langley) and take some photos if you need more info. Remember that I had a left side door handle available (and for you, it would be totally free (I would mail it to you gratis)): http://www.forwardlook.net/forums/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=72001&... Expert Posts: 1918 Location: Hell's Outhouse - a.k.a. Buckeye, Arizona | Yeah, I did a post on this one a while back. An antiques dealer in Edmonton, Alberta named Alex Archbold (no typo) is the one who initially rescued this Fargo from the bone yard in October, 2017. Allegedly a 1-of-1 in that it's a Fargo with V-8 and Powerflite - needless to say, you've got one hell of a jewel there, Todd. Congratulations! Here's Alex's video on it at the time he ultimately bought and saved it - the most relevant part of the video is at 17:48 as Alex covers others while he's there. You can still watch the whole video if you want, but 17:48 is the key part:

I wonder if they all came with 1957-59 Plymouth base level steering wheels. that would mean the deluxe wheel for non power steering cars would work also! Been looking for a sweptside for a while, they seem to pop up when I am poor. A short bed version would be cool too. Marc. Veteran Posts: 169 Location: Cochrane, Alberta | Silver engine it is; thanks! I’m trying to get a list together on what’s the Sweptside comparing it to a regular 58 D100; what parts are the same, and what parts are different. I’m also trying to figure out what’s comparable between a 1958 and a 1959 truck as the deal came with a driver regular 59 as well. The story is that the old guy bought the Sweptside I’m the 60’s and drove it until the clutch or transmission started to act up. He wasn’t very mechanical so he bought a cheap running 59, moved the Sweptside box and trim over to it after painting the truck red and white. Fortunately the original cab, chassis, fenders, hood, engine and transmission were just put up on blocks in the weeds and there it has sat for 30 years. Surprisingly after cleaning all off the junk away from that chassis and putting good wheels and tires on it, it rolled no problem for hauling; nothing was stuck. The sad part was that when I was there grabbing the trucks the tres were full of rough but saveable cars; off the top of my head there were 3 custom royals, a 61 Fury, a Valiant, a 58 Windsor 2 door hard top, a 58 Saratoga 4 door, and a 67 Mew Yorker driver factory 440 car. The word from the son I got the trucks from is that they are thinking of selling the farm in the near future as his mother is quite elderly, and these cars would likely be crushed!

Veteran Posts: 169 Location: Cochrane, Alberta | I will need to find a steering wheel (the original is super rough) and some wheel covers. Luckily the original Fargo tailgate was there.
