I'm at my wits end trying to find a repair shop to work my 57 Imp. As mentioned in my other thread, it had an engine fire in March and it still hasn't had any work done on it.

I've taken it to one shop locally that turned out to be a scam and I'm suing the shop to get my 2k down payment back from them after several months of the car rotting in their shop/lot.

Took to a place everyone said does excellent work and the insurance company (Hagert) is now saying they are charging waaay to much for labor fees. They are wanting around $120/hr for labor costs, and when I look what typical costs are, they are usually in the $70-$90 per hour range. So looks like I'll need to tow it somewhere else now. Maybe I'm out of touch, but I felt 120/hr for labor was also pretty high.

I don't know where to go with this car. I've searched around and got two options left that I'm waiting to hear back from that have an A+ rating on BBB and seem to have decent reviews on google. Here's these two shops in case anyone has knowledge of them:

Auto Restoration Techniques ( http://autorestorationtechniques.com/ )
BBB A+ 40 years
(not sure he's going to want to work on it as he seems to focus on VW's and stuff, but he mentions Pontiac.)

Bernie's Garage & Body Shop, Inc. ( http://berniesautorepair.com/restoration/2072040 )
BBB Accredited A+ 60 years
(seems to have history working with insurance, so that seems good)

Wish I could find that one guy who works out of his own garage and knows what he's doing. Anyone know someone like that in the central Ohio area? If these last two don't pan out, I'm lost on where to take the car.

I guess I could look into pulling the motor myself and sending it off, but having no experience, I don't know about that.

I would suggest talking with Murphy's in link above. Been in business quite a few years and I have had some work done there with very good results. In Dover, Ohio., about 120 miles from Columbus.

Thanks, but looks like Murphy has retired.

So I checked with Auto Restoration Techniques, and he really only does body work. Seems like a very nice guy, but just not interested in doing mechanical work.

Bernie's Garage seemed to be unsure if they could handle the job or not, so I wouldn't feel comfortable letting them "learn" on my car.

The appraiser from the insurance company recommended First Choice Auto Clinic: http://firstchoiceautoclinic.com/
That place has an A rating with the BBB with two complaints since 2017, but the company has been in business for over 20 years.

Would you guys chance it with a shop like First Choice Auto Clinic? At this point, they seem to be my only option.

I would think you really need a shop familiar with that generation car, not the kind of car to learn on, as you said. Due diligence required here. There are no shops within a 200 mile radius from me that would tackle that.

What needs to be done? The car and its mechanics are simple enough for any reputable shop. There is no mystery to these cars its all straight forward simple stuff and easy to figure out.
