Anyone willing to sell a good used one or 2 or knows a good alternative, made out of something else? These are ridiculous expensive + shipping. I just don't spend $70-100 for a simple steel cap. Lost one last year, when driving w/o a wheelcover.

We've used new ones from local parts stores like o'Reilly's or Auto Zone. They are not an exact match to OEM but serve the purpose and look great. Fairly cheap but I don't know what shipping would be. Rock Auto might be another source.

Thanks. Can't find them on Rockauto. I think they all interchange up to 71, or so. I bet these are cheap in the US, but shipping is always a problem.

Sid: I have a Dorman 13996 sitting here on my desk still in its unopened package. It will not fit on my 56 Dodge with 56 Chrysler front brakes. (I bought two and I have tried modifying the other one to make it fit but nein, Es geht nicht).

Supposedly, it is 1-13/16 diameter. If that works for you, you can have it for the cost of shipping to Germany.

Thank you Dave! I think it is a little over 1.3/4 (some odd Inch measurement, 1.25/32 or so) Not sure, I will have to check it again.

Didn't measure, but googled. Provided the info is right 1.3/16" is the larger cap, IIRC 1973&up. Looks like you need the same type I need. From 55-72 full size. Thanks anyway. BTW, I never liked the dust cap design. It should be something to safely screw on and seal better. I might just glue some cap over it with Polyurethane.

All I can say is the Dorman 13996 which is supposed to be 1 3/16" is slightly too big. I can't find a smaller one.

I have mostly restored the old ones since they sit perfectly. The aftermarket ones are usually too tight even after some adjustment so they tend to get damaged when installed.
A suitable pipe that fits on the edge is what I use to install them with.
I found one in a box this morning. Not perfect but usable. I can send it to you if you want.
It is of diameter 45 mm on the part which fits inside the hub and has 35 mm total height.

From what I heard Dorman (?) incorrectly advertised the 1.3/16 caps to fit 55-89 Mopars. Ours are 1/32" or so smaller, up to 1972. I can't even blame them, as who could expect such a stupid production change?
Very "wise" step from Chrysler to make such a change. I bet that 1/32" increase in dust cap diameter made a huge improvement in roadability.....

Ok Thanks! Will contact you via PM!

You can make those larger caps work on your car, but it's more work than it should be.
