Did the 1962 mopars with the B block engine (361, 383) use the same manual transmission as the 1961 Darts, which had synchronizer problems? I think the 1962 super stock cars used a T-85, but not sure what smaller engines were mated to.

Mopar used the T-85 in 1960 behind the 361 and 383 and also in 62-64 behind the max wedges. I am not sure if they were also used behind the 361-383 in 62-64. Never say never, you may have been able to special order it on a new car or order from the parts dept. and install it yourself. Good luck finding one of these.

In '62 the 361-383 used the A-745, smaller engines used the A-903. Both are top-loaders very similar in appearance; the 903 top cover is flat but the 745 cover has a "hump" in the front.

In 1962 I had a brand new Plymouth Fury convertible with the 361 Golden Commando engine. It was an early build and at that time it was the largest standard order engine available. I ordered the car with a manual transmission and it was a 3 speed column mounted lever. There was no floor shift available and there was no 4 speed available either. Dad was a Chrysler-Plymouth dealer and we begged for a at least a floor shift but to no avail. We were told if we wanted a floor shift we would have to put one in ourselves. I did not do that and suffered with the 3 onda tree till the '63s came out and went with the Torqueflite in a 383 Golden Commando Fury convertible with bench seat so my sweetie could sit next to me and no floor shifter was in the way. Besides, the Torqueflite was just as fast, if not faster, and was easier to control with those funky bias ply no-grip tires.

What is interesting is in 63 you could get Mopars with the Borg Warner T-10 4 speed but they still used the T-85 for the max wedge cars. The T-10 evolved from the T-85 and they are very similar in strength.
