Hello all. I am new here but have been lurking for the past several months and really love this site. There's something about the 57/58 Saratoga that really grabs me! I have also loved the 57/58 Fury ever since seeing the movie "Christine", and from the prices it seems like everybody else loves those cars as well. Anyways, I finally decided to post a question regarding the 300C motor I have owned for the past 35 years. This motor has been in my 1966 Charger since the early eighties and through the years I have always wondered if the car it came in still existed. Clearly I'm not purist, hell I got a 392 a charger, but still, it's always bugged me that there might be some guy out there searching for the numbers matching motor for his 300C. Any thoughts or comments would be appreciated.

While the engine numbers were not matched to the VIN like they were in
the 60's and later, they were somewhat relative. Posting your engine's
number would be a start. Let people know that engine is still out there.
Maybe someone will see it and connect the dots ?

The Chrysler 300 Club Inc's Gil Cunningham might be willing to research this for you but ONLY if you become a dues paying member. (What the heck, join for one year) If I had the 3N57 ____ number I could give you the approximate VIN range from my database when I was the club's model year consultant for those cars. Chrysler Historical I would say is unlikely to go through their microfiche production record to try to find the car for your engine - and then would not know whether that car still exists. PM me if that is what you would prefer - or post the number here.

This may help narrow it down some for you.
I own 300 C # 2416 and the engine # is 2465. It is the original engine.
So, the car your engine was originally in could be around 50 or so units less in number than that of your engine #

Thanks for the info and comments. Wasn't sure if the engine number/vin were matched back then. The number on my motor is 3NE572528. Always wondered about the dual four intake/carbs as well. I'll post those numbers later since it's packed away in the attic and I have a broken foot. Thanks again everyone!

Food for thought....

Just checked the latest 57 300C vin #list and there are 9 cars accounted for between #'s 2455 & 2503.
#2457 &2503 are indicated as being scrapped.

from the total production of 1767 cuoples and 484 converts,
393 coupes are accounted for as well as 121 converts

60 coupes are listed as being scrapped and 3 converts.

This can be done. I know, because I did find a home for a 300D block I had under my workbench for years.
About 10 years ago, in a conversation w/another 300 club member from CA the fact that he had bought a D from someone in AZ that had a NY'er engine in it. I had known my block had come from a car that was in the same area as where his D came from and had corresponded with the owner at that time about getting the block back to him but nothing ever came of it and I lost contact w/him the guy. Lo and behold, the IBM build card from the fellow in CA listed the engine block originally installed in his D as built was the block I had!

Last I heard, the car and engine are re-united once more!

This doesn't really work because earlier in the year the engine numbers are closer to the VIN (because they haven't made as many warranty engines) and later than your 2416 car there are still more extra engines built.

I just threw that out as an example Wayne.
Give the guy something to think about.
I used to have another C, but it was sold and I no longer have the records on it.
Would make for some interesting stats if more input could be gathered.
My D, the one I bought in Bandera, the engine is 62 higher than the VIN # so it's near the same ballpark anyway.

Thanks for those interesting facts. I bought my engine in Ontario, Ca back in 1981. I remember it had zoomies that came with it so maybe it was in a rail at some point in time. Years later my buddy and I used those zoomies as a starting point to build headers for the 66 charger. What a pita that was. I now have much admiration for custom header builders. It still had the push button auto attached so the rail thing may be a stretch... plus it had .030 over cast pistons and appeared otherwise stock with the solid lifter cam, dimpled valve covers and dual fours. All in all I'd say it was a pretty good deal for the pennies I paid for it!

Maybe the original car was run in Ascot raceway back in the day and the only thing to survive was the drivetrain?

I just checked the eng # on my spare 300C short block.
It is #2283
Using the above info, I checked the 300C VIN roster and it indeed came from car #2224, a white coupe that was stripped and scrapped by the same fellow I purchased the block from sometime back in the 80's.
59 units after the car VIN #

My 300C VIN is 2761, but my motor is 1313. If I could locate the original motor to it before I rebuild this one, I would use it.
