Folks-
Any of you aware of the steering column movement (left to right, feels like a loose steering wheel) these cars can have? Mine does, and so does another F and a G I inspected? Is this the rubber isolator at the bottom of the shaft? If not what? I cannot find much discussion about this except as it relates to the horn contact.

You mentioned column and then steering wheel being loose. Is the whole column moving or just the shaft the steering wheel is
attached to that goes inside the column from the steering wheel to the steering gear?

Sounds like the rubber isolator. If its worn out, you can move your steering wheel from 10 to 2 o'clock and your wheels will hardly move at all. Amazing what a difference a $15 part makes!

I'm sure it's the rubber insulator at the bottom of the column. I replaced mine 2 years ago on my 1960 Chrysler Saratoga because you could grab the steering wheel and move it slightly left to right, and it would give a nasty shake when driving over a bump. The rubber piece was pretty well mashed. After I replaced the insulator, no more rattles, and my the steering wander cleared up too. I also put in a new horn ground while I was at it as the horn was sporadic. I documented my repair on this page of this site http://www.forwardlook.net/forums/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=68374&...

Yes, it appears to be the insulator. So who has one of those for sale, Quiry?

Best-

Mine came originally from Gary Goers, now Quirey. Hopefully they have some.

There is also rubber around the upper column where the column attaches under the dome. On my '60 wagon it was missing the chrome steering column collar between the wheel and some, when I tried to put one on I found that the column wasn't centered so it wouldn't fit. The rubber sleeve around the column had slipped up above the clamp which made the column in the wrong place and loose. I had to unclamp it and slide the sleeve back down and get the column centered for the trim. I saw on my 300F that the column is not in the middle compared to the collar. I was able to adjust it to center it as well.
