Hello, new here, just bought a 1955 Chrysler New Yorker Town and Country Deluxe Station Wagon and I am trying to decode the Body tag to see what I've got. Any help would be appreciated. Thank You.

This much smaller (half the size) photo might be easier for us to try to help you.

Hello Will;

MODEL 40 = New Yorker Deluxe (4) Town and Country 4-Door Station Wagon (0)
PAINT 99 = Special Order (Non-Standard) Paint
TRIM 23 = Beige Vinyl and Brown Plaid Linen
SCHED 322 = Scheduled on March 22, 1955
ITEM 1126 = 126th New Yorker Deluxe built that day

B = blank = Power Brakes as Standard Equipment on NY
C4 = Power Seat 4-Way
D5 = unknown Radio; I’ve never seen D5 code on ’55 Chrysler cowl tag – see known optional codes below:
E7 = Power Windows – Front Only
F4 = Heater
G1 = Solex Glass – All Windows
S8 = Powerflite Automatic Transmission (Standard) and Power Steering (Optional)
SPL.-FO B695 = Special Foreign Number; No idea what does it mean exactly at the moment…
It might be related to the Special Order Code Paint 99

1391 in the lower right corner is a BODY NO. 1391; It is a 391th New Yorker Deluxe Town and Country built...
Overall 1036 units were built for 1955…

1955 Chrysler Radios Availability:

D1 = Radio – Electro Touch Tuner with Foot Control and Rear Seat Speaker
D4 = Radio – Music Master
D6 = Radio – Electro Touch Tuner with Foot Control
D8 = Radio – Music Master and Rear Seat Speaker
D9 = Radio – Electro Touch Tuner and Rear Seat Speaker

What Radio does your car have? Could you post the image of it?
The images of car (outside, inside and engine bay) would be appreciated too…

Trying to understand what the Radio D5 code might be, I’ve separated available radios;
Here what I got:

Music Master
Music Master and Rear Seat Speaker

Electro Touch Tuner
Electro Touch Tuner and Rear Seat Speaker

Electro Touch Tuner with Foot Control
Electro Touch Tuner with Foot Control and Rear Seat Speaker

And the Radio codes should be:

D4 = Music Master
D8 = Music Master and Rear Seat Speaker

D5 = Electro Touch Tuner
D9 = Electro Touch Tuner and Rear Seat Speaker

D6 = Electro Touch Tuner with Foot Control
D1 = Electro Touch Tuner with Foot Control and Rear Seat Speaker

I guess your radio might be an Electro Touch (5 push-button) LESS Foot Control and LESS Rear Seat Speaker. Am I right?

Yeah, not exactly sure what radio is in it I'll try to get a photo uploaded. It does have what looks like a speaker on the left pillar between the front and back seats, the power seat option is a mystery, as the seat in it does not have a motor assy (might have been removed and not replaced when the seats were reupholstered), Also there are pull down shades above the door windows (missing drivers' side unfortunately). Paint is the desert sand with canyon tan accent/roof. Thanks for the assistance in decoding.

If so, your car should have paint code 722, an extra-cost option.
Or just they changed it for non-standard code 99.

The FACTORY rear seat speaker is not installed on the Wagons and Convertibles, because no rear shelf, IMHO…

Does the car have power windows?

It is definitely 6 push-button Music Master Radio (less expensive)
Electro Touch Tuner Radio (more expensive) had 5 push-button like on the picture below;

I think so too. They wouldn’t factory install a foot control on less expensive radio.
Can the seller (previous owner) tell / solve a radio mystery?

Does the car a power tail gate window?

Seller has no information; the tailgate window is manual crank. Does anyone happen to know where I can get a gasket set for the tailgate window??
