I bought this. Is there anyone in Yuma that can go check it out for me? The pictures were weak, but for $10k I couldn't resist.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I thought on eBay once you’ve clicked buy-it-now and paid for it you’ve committed to buy the car and it’s a done deal, right? You’re usually supposed to inspect it beforehand.

I'm still excited, so I am going to ignore the condescending tone. Thanks for your input. My honor isn't in question, just trying to get a handle on if this car has any rust issues and am asking for a little help if possible. Frankly the price seemed too good to be true. Combine the crappy pics, the low price, and a seller with low feedback and I am understandably skeptical. I kindly ask to keep this thread civil and without criticism.

Wow,what with all the overly sensitive people these days? I wasn’t being condescending at all and nothing I said was anything but civil. I apologize if you somehow got that feeling. I’ve never bought a car off eBay so I was asking how that works. I thought standard operating procedure was to inspect it before buying because they consider it entering into a legally binding contract. I didn’t mean anything hostile at all. It looks like a nice car and I hope it works out for you.

Dude: Suddenlyits1960! isn't being condescending or even critical. Definitely, he's being civil. He is just stating the facts about how eBay is supposed to work.

Thanks “56D500boy”,you’re right,I wasn’t being condescending at all,and I wish the guy the best with his car. Honestly, sometimes it seems like walking through a minefield just having a conversation with people these days.

Thank you. I didn't mean to imply that you weren't being civil, just asking for future comments to stay civil. My apologies to you too. I stopped getting on here because of all of the infighting and felt that your comment was critical - "You’re usually supposed to inspect it beforehand."
I've owned a lot of forward look cars and we all know that rust is a serious concern. I pulled the trigger on the car because I felt that I would miss out if I hesitated. Anyone who lives in or around Yuma Arizona willing to help a fellow FL fan?

Looks like this is LA-built car!
The cowl tag located near right hood hinge, not on the radiator support frame…

Interesting. Do you think that implies that it has been put together out of more than one car?

Not all states permitted four headlights in 1957 so it might have been in an accident at some point and had 58 fenders and hood and maybe the rad support (with the data tag) installed.

Maybe. The grill and bumper are 57.

Does it matter? This car is never going to be a 100 point concours car anyway. Just a nice driver (after a bunch of work and $$$)

Need to see good viewable pictures of both tags and the main serial number tag located on the driver’s side door hinge as well…
Detroit serial number starting from N56…; Los Angeles starting from N56L…
I won't make any predictions…

Thanks for all of the info. I just want a driver, so were good there. All of my other project cars will be on the chopping block.
The wiring worries me. It looks like someone was trying to install a stereo maybe.

Ebay rules state that for automotive purchases, you can "buy it now", head out to inspect, and decline the purchase if you so choose, despite whatever "contractual" bs the seller thinks you have entered into. I have purchased many cars on Ebay that weren't even close to being as described, and I walked away from them when I went to pick them up. The seller, of course threw a little tantrum, that ebay ignored once I explained it.

Great car there! You are almost guaranteed to have some bondo slathered in the lower quarters to fill some small amount of rust, but being in Arizona, who knows, you might get lucky. Most likely it's an LA car with a different front on it. No one would purposely drill the cowl to put another tag on it. The motor being blue is annoying, but at least that indicates it may have been rebuilt, so that's good. What are your plans for it? If it were mine, I would probably paint the roof & sweep black. Looks like you are missing the large rear window trim. Not very easy to find. Wiring isnt' that hard to deal with, just take your time and go through it using soldered joints with heat shrink tubing. Good luck!

I did not know that about ebay, thanks for sharing. A friend of mine bought a nice looking GTO Judge that ended up being a complete wreck. All of the tricks in the book were used to hide things in the pictures.
You asked about my plans for the car. Short term, get it road worthy and enjoy it for what is left of the summer without any major modifications.

I've got 3 others that are all projects and it is clear to me that I don't have the time or physical endurance to get even one done.

The color is not my first choice and I don't like the fender spears. Long term I'd love to paint is two tone. I've leaned towards copper and black for a long time.
I may have that back window trim. I have a spare big back window.
I have some better interior pieces too, like a nice steering wheel.

Mark, best of luck with it. Sometimes a car that's just a fun driver can be the best kind of vintage car to have.

When I had a '58 NY convert back in the mid- '80s it was just a nice solid #3 to #4 car from Nevada, and fun the way it was. But then it went overseas for a full restoration with it's new owner and became a trailer queen... cars too nice to use are not my cup of tea (pic).

Thanks,I appreciate that. Like I said it wasn’t meant that way at all. I don’t blame you one bit for buying it before it got away, especially if it’s the car you’ve been looking for. The 57-58 and 1960 Chryslers are the most beautiful Chrysler’s ever. I sure wouldn’t mind owning one myself one day,but I tend favor the DeSoto of the same year.

I hope the car turns out to be better than you thought!

Thanks for sharing that info Powerflite. I’ve never bought a car off eBay so I wasn’t sure as to the specifics involved. I know with regular purchases before you pay they give you a little warning telling you that by clicking buy it now you’re entering into a legally binding contract to purchase the item. That’s good to know that with car purchases they allow you to walk away if it’s grossly misrepresented. I am sorry to hear that’s been the case several times for you. Wonder why sellers pull stuff like that instead of just being upfront from the start. Maybe they are hoping for out of state or overseas purchases where the seller can’t see them in person?

I just looked it up and apparently real estate purchases are also not legally binding.

“All bids made in the Real Estate and eBay Motors vehicles categories are considered non-bindin

I don't know what some of the sellers are thinking. One purchase was for a '58 Ranchero with terrible quality pictures. I couldn't see anything on the bottom of the car because of how dark & grainy the photos were. I specifically asked the seller if it had any rust on the bottom of it, and he told me that it didn't, that it was pretty much rust free. So I bought it, and drive up there, look at the car, and the entire lower half of the car is missing from rust. It didn't have a single panel on the whole car that wasn't half gone. I was pretty upset about it, but I kept myself from yelling at the guy and left. But he still had the nerve to try to punish me through Ebay for not buying it!

I think Ebay had to include these rules to comply with lemon laws & other similar laws out there that protect buyers to some degree.

The only person on here that I know of in Arizona is "arizona mopar gold". You could try contacting him to see if he can look at it for you.
